Iran vows to foil U.S. efforts to block its oil exports

As per Iran's first Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, Iran will surely do something to thwart the U.S. rallying cry that Iranian oil (exports) must be stemmed.

The official warned countries including China and India, who are key buyers of Iranian oil, that they should stop purchasing crude from the country before the November deadline or face U.S. sanctions. Mr. Jahangiri's remarks came a day after Mr. Trump said that Saudi Arabia's King Salman had agreed to his request to ramp up oil production.

New Presidential Candidate of Maldives

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the main opposition party leading the joint coalition that has vowed to topple incumbent President Abdulla Yameen, has declared senior lawmaker Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as its presidential candidate, after former President Mohamed Nasheed pulled out of the race.

Mr. Nasheed announced that he was relinquishing his presidential ticket, after the Election Commission barred him from contesting.

FDI Growth Hits 5-year Low

According to the latest data of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), foreign direct investment (FDI) in India seems to be petering out with the growth rate of inflows recording a five-year low of 3% at $44.85 billion in 2017-18.

Foreign inflows in the country grew by 8.67% in 2016-17, 29% in 2015-16, 27% in 2014-15 and 8% in 2013-14. However, FDI inflows recorded a negative growth of 38% in 2012-13.

FPI Outflows Hits 10-year High

Overseas investors have pulled out nearly Rs. 48,000 crore from Indian capital markets in the first six months of 2018, making it the steepest outflow in a decade, following high crude oil prices and trade war worries.

The investors withdrew a net sum of Rs. 41,433 crore from the debt markets, besides, a net amount of Rs. 6,430 crore from equities during the January-June period of the year, taking the total outflow to Rs. 47,836 crore.
This was the biggest outflow since January-June 2008.

Dravid Inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame

Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has been inducted into the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Hall of fame. The fourth highest run scorer in Test cricket, Dravid became the fifth Indian cricketer to enter the ICC Hall of Fame.

FIFA World Cup 2018

Croatia entered World Cup quarter-finals by defeating Denmark 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the two sides drew 1-1 in the round of 16 match.

Hosts Russia beat Spain 4-3 on penalties to advance to the World Cup quarter-finals where they will face Croatia.

Commander Abhilash Participating in the Historic GGR

Commander Abhilash Tomy of the Indian Navy, a well-known sailor, is participating in the historic Golden Globe Race (GGR), which commenced from the Les Sables d'Olonne harbour in western France.

He is the only invitee from Asia to the prestigious GGR. There are 18 participants, including one woman sailor, in the race.
The participants are required to sail around the world, single-handed and non-stop.

Agni-V to be Part of Nuclear Arsenal

As per reports, India's longest-range ballistic missile, Agni-V, will be inducted into the nuclear arsenal very soon.

The Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) with a range of over 5,000 km can reach most parts of China. "It is a strategic asset which will act as a deterrent.
