Iran Bans Import of Items

Iran banned imports of over 1,300 products, preparing its economy to resist threatened U.S. sanctions, amid rare public protests against the plunge of its currency to record lows.

The Rial is under heavy pressure from the U.S. sanctions threat. It sank as low as 90,000 against the dollar in the unofficial market from 87,000.

Erdogan Wins Landmark Elections

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan won sweeping new executive powers after his victory in landmark elections. The polls also saw his AK Party and its nationalist allies secure a majority in Parliament.

Erdogan`s main rival, Muharrem Ince of the Republican People`s Party (CHP), conceded defeat but branded the elections unjust.

FBI Experts to Investigate Ethiopia Bomb Blast

The United States will send experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to Ethiopia to investigate a bomb blast that took place during a rally on Saturday.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed survived the grenade attack at a massive rally in support of his push for radical political and economic reforms, including a peace deal with regional arch-enemy Eritrea.

Adnoc, Saudi Aramco to Invest in Ratnagiri Refinery

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Saudi Aramco will jointly invest in the $44 billion Ratnagiri refinery and petrochemical complex that is coming up in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra.

The two firms signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard in New Delhi.

Adnoc and Saudi Aramco will jointly have 50 per cent stake in the refinery while the remaining stake will be held by Indian companies.

Oil India Discovers Hydrocarbon

Oil India Limited (OIL) has made its second hydrocarbon discovery in the on land KG Basin NELP VI Block �" KG-ONN-2004/1.

OIL is the operator of the block with 90% participating interest while the balance 10% is held by Geo Global Resources. Earlier, the company made a gas discovery at Dangeru-l well in the block.

AIIB to Invest for India's Development Projects

The Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) announced an equity investment of $100 million in India`s National Investment & Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) to help various development projects in this country.

The NIIF is a collaborative investment platform for international and domestic investors keen on investing in commercially viable Indian infrastructure projects.

Pakistan to Launch Observatory Satellite

Pakistan will launch an indigenously developed observatory satellite next month which can be used to study various features of Earth, determine mineral deposits and impacts of climate change.

Fitted with sensors and cameras, the 285 kg satellite named PakTES-1A will remain stationary 610 km in space and its position relative to the Sun will not change.

Para-swimmer Satender Creates Record

Satender Singh from Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior took up the challenge of swimming across the English Channel. It was also a motto that helped the para-swimmer achieve the enormous feat in 12 hours and 26 minutes - a record.

Satender has won several medals in international events but will hold crossing the English Channel as one of his biggest achievements.

FIFA World Cup 2018

Uruguay burnished their World Cup credentials with a 3-0 victory over Russia, finishing top of Group A with a perfect record while dampening the hopes of the tournament hosts, who had to settle for second.

Former TMC Minister Joins BJP

Humayun Kabir a former Minister in the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal joined the BJP, two days before party chief Amit Shah's rally in the State.

Mr. Kabir hails from Murshidabad district and was expelled from the TMC in 2015 for his alleged anti-party activities. He was earlier in the Congress. He claimed that the people in the State are looking for an alternative to Mamata Banerjee-led TMC and see the BJP as the most credible one.

Harsh Mander Resigns as Special Monitor

Stating that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had remained silent on encounters targeting members of minority communities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, activist Harsh Mander has resigned as the NHRC's special monitor for communal riots and minorities.

Mr. Mander, along with Maja Daruwala, had been appointed as a special monitor by the NHRC in 2017.
