Erdoğan Eyes New Term

Turkey awaited the outcome of its most tightly-fought elections in recent years, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan seeking a new mandate and control over Parliament in the face of a revitalised opposition and weakening economy.

Over 56 million eligible voters were for the first time casting ballots for both President and Parliament, with Mr. Erdoğan looking for a first round knock-out and an overall majority for his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) to extend his 15 year grip on power.

Emergency Talks over Migration

European Union (EU) leaders headed to Brussels for emergency talks over migration as Italy's new populist Cabinet turned away another rescue ship, vowing no longer to shoulder Europe's migrant burden. The talks involving 16 of the bloc's 28 leaders aim to mend rifts over burden sharing.

With four eastern anti-migrant EU countries snubbing the meeting, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other leaders have downplayed hopes of an EU-wide agreement, saying smaller ad-hoc deals may be the only way forward.

Varroc Eyes Global Acquisitions

Varroc Group, one of the largest auto component manufacturers in India, is scouting for acquisitions to emerge as one of the world's top three suppliers of external lighting systems to global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Varroc Group entered the auto component business in 2012 when it acquired the lighting systems business of Visteon Group which was spun off from Ford Motors.

Oil Field Bids Deferred

The government has deferred the bidding for 60 oil and gas fields being offered in the second round of bidding for discovered small field (DSF) by a month.

Audio equipment manufacturer Bose has now launched a rather unconventional "noise masking" wireless earbuds, called ''Sleepbuds.'' The Sleepbuds are said to block out all forms of external noise such as traffic, loud neighbours and even snoring to help you sleep.

These Sleepbuds come pre-loaded with 10 soothing sounds, some optimized for masking and others for relaxation, all claimed to help you sleep.

India are now unbeaten in the tournament, having mauled arch-rivals Pakistan.

Indian Envoy Barred from Meeting Pilgrims at Gurudwara

Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria and consular officials were barred by Pakistan to visit Gurudwara Panja Sahib in Pakistan's Punjab province and meet the Indian pilgrims.

Summoning Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah in New Delhi, India lodged a strong protest.

Indian Naval Ships Reach Indonesia

The Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet ships INS Shakti and INS Kamorta reached the Port of Makassar, Indonesia for a three-day visit to enhance maritime cooperation between the two navies for security and stability in the region.

This is part of the operational reach and pursuit of India's 'Act East' policy.

Swachh Survekshan 2018

Madhya Pradesh's Indore and Bhopal emerged as the cleanest cities in the country occupying the top two slots in the Swachh Survekshan 2018, a nationwide cleanliness survey conducted by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.

This is the second consecutive time that Indore has received the tag for the cleanest city of the country. Chandigarh and New Delhi (NDMC) emerged as the third and fourth cleanest cities in the survey.
Among the states, Jharkhand - which was placed last in the survey in 2015 - emerged as the cleanest state in the country. Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh took the second and third slots respectively.
