TCS Creates History

Software services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) became the first Indian company to achieve a market valuation of Rs. 7 lakh crore in intra-day trades. But it closed the session a tad off that mark at Rs. 6.9 lakh crore.

India's Foreign Exchange Reserves

According to date released by the Reserve Bank of India, the country's foreign exchange reserves fell $2.6 billion for the week ended May 18 to $415 billion.

Foreign exchange reserves touched a record high of $426 billion for the week ended April 13, 2018.

IDBI Bank Reports for Sixth Straight Quarter

State-run lender IDBI Bank reported loss for the sixth straight quarter even as the bank's management assured that most of the bad loans have been recognised and could turn to black after the second quarter of the current financial year.

The lender reported a net loss at Rs. 5,662.76 crore in the quarter ending March 2018 due to higher provisioning for non-performing assets (NPAs).

Man Booker International Prize 2018

Polish novelist Olga Tokarczuk won the prestigious Man Booker International Prize for fiction "Flights," a novel that charts multiple journeys in time, space and human anatomy.

Tokarczuk is one of Poland's best-known authors. She has been criticized by Polish conservatives �" and received death threats �" for criticizing aspects of the country's past, including its episodes of anti-Semitism.

World's Youngest to Summit Six Peaks

Indian mountaineer Arjun Vajpai this week became the youngest person in the world to scale six peaks over 8,000 metres when he summited the treacherous Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. Vajpai is the third youngest person to scale the Mount Everest at the age of 16 in 2010.

ASEAN Film Festival

The ASEAN Film Festival is being held in Delhi from 25th to 30th May.

The Directorate of Film Festivals is organising ASEAN India Film Festival in collaboration with the ministry of External Affairs (ASEAN Multilateral Division) as part of the series of events to commemorate 25 years of ASEAN and India relations. The film festival will be non-competitive and the tagline of the festival is proposed to be 'Friendship through Films. Around 32 films from 11 countries are to be screened for six days during the ASEAN India Film Festival.

New Governors Appointed

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed new Governors for Odisha and Mizoram.

Professor Ganeshi Lal has been appointed as Governor of Odisha with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office and Kummanam Rajasekharan has been appointed as Governor of Mizoram.
Rajasekharan will replace incumbent Lt. Gen Nirbhay Sharma, who is completing his tenure on May 28.

Fourth Mk-IV LCU Commissioned

The Indian navy has commissioned its fourth Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV.

A total of 8 vessels in the class are planned to be built for the Indian Navy.
The amphibious ships are designed by India's Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and can be deployed for multi-role activities like beaching operations, humanitarian and disaster relief operations and evacuation from distant islands.
