Videocon Exits Non-life Business
Cash-strapped Videocon Industries has exited its non-life insurance joint venture with American insurer Liberty Mutual. Of its 51.3% stake in Liberty Videocon General Insurance, the company has sold 25.3% to Vallabh Bhansali's Enam Securities and 26% to the DP Jindal Group firm Diamond Dealtrade.
The stake sale has already received approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
Travel and Tourism Created 25.9 Million Jobs in India
According to a report by Indian industry body Ficci and services firm KPMG, the travel and tourism sectors together generated 25.9 million jobs in 2017, contributing $75.8 billion (Rs. 5 lakh crore, approximately) to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the same year.
Directly contributing 25.9 million jobs, travel and tourism sectors are among the largest employment generators in the country.
Tech giant IBM has unveiled the world's smallest computer measuring 1 x 1 mm. This device was unveiled at ongoing IBM Think 2018 Conference.
The device is a part of IMB Research's 5 in 5 project. "Within the next five years, cryptographic anchors �" such as ink dots or tiny computers smaller than a grain of salt �" will be embedded in everyday objects and devices."
Union Cabinet approved the launch of Ayushman Bharat - National Health Protection Mission - which is slated to cover over 10 crore poor families and provide coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh.
The scheme is touted as the world's largest government-funded health care programme. AB-NHPM will subsume the on-going centrally sponsored schemes - Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and the Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS).
India Not Considering Signing NPT
India is not considering any proposal to sign the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT) as a precondition for joining the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
India's position on the NPT remains unchanged.
India's NSG membership bid has been consistently blocked by China despite strong support to New Delhi from several countries, including the US and France.
