First Sikh Woman Elected Mayor in US

Preet Didbal has been elected as the mayor of Yuba city in California, becoming the first sikh woman to hold the position in the US. Dibal was appointed by the California city council, and will be sworn in on December 5. Didbal was elected to Yuba City Council in 2014 and is currently Vice Mayor. 

Raj Shah Becomes First- Indian American Gaggle on Air Force One

Raj Shah, who holds a key position in the White House, gaggled with reporters on board Air Force One, becoming the first Indian-American to enjoy the privilege.

Gaggle is the term used for informal briefing by the White House Press Secretary, which is on the record but bars reporters from videographing.
Shah, 33, did so in the capacity of principal deputy press secretary, a position to which he was promoted by US President Donald Trump in September.

GDP Growth Comes Up to 6.3%

India’s economy grew by 6.3% in July-September substantially higher than 5.7% in the first quarter. After a three-year low of 5.7% in the first quarter, the GDP growth at 6.3% comes on the sharp jump in manufacturing activity, which increased from 1.2% in the first quarter to 7% in the second. 

Indo-Spanish Technical Cooperation Agreement Signed

An Indo- Spanish technical cooperation agreement was signed between the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and the Administrador de Infraestructuras Feroviarias (ADIF), Spain. The state-owned Spanish railway infrastructure company would provide institutional mechanism for mutual cooperation in the field of urban transport and implementation of Regional Rapid Transit System project. 

PFC Lists Green Bond on LSE

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has listed its first International bond in almost two decades on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) to fund renewable energy projects in the country. The funds raised will help promote renewable energy projects in the country and aid in achieving the government’s target of 175 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2022.

US Researchers Develops Living Organism

 In a major step toward creating artificial life, US researchers have developed a living organism that incorporates both natural and artificial DNA and is can create entirely new, synthetic proteins. The work, published in the journal Nature, brings scientists closer to the development of designer proteins.

Mirabai Chanu Brings First Gold Medal for India in World Championship

India won its first weightlifting world championship gold medal since 1995 when Mirabai Chanu defeated Thunya Sukcharoen in the women’s 48 kg in Anaheim, California. Chanu became the first Indian in over two decades to claim a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championship. 

Indian Women Archers Beat South Korea in Asian Archery Championship

The Indian Women Archers (compound)  beat South Korea 230- 227 in the final of the Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka. The trio of V. Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb and Parveena turned the tables on the Koreans .

Meanwhile, the Indian compound and recurve teams (men) settled for the silver medal after losing their respective finals to the Koreans. India finished second behind Korea, bagging 2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal.

Manushi Named Brand Ambassador for Eradicating Anaemia among Women

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced Manushi’s appointment as the brand ambassador of Haryana government’s project for eradicating anaemia among women. He also announced to support Manushi’s project ‘Shakti’ aimed at women empowerment. 

UP Records Highest Number of Crimes

Uttar Pradesh records the highest number of heinous crimes in 2016, according to the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau. New Delhi is the most unsafe of  19 major cities in the country, according to NCRB. 

Rajasthan Growth Bond Unveiled

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a government agency engaged in administering civil foreign aid, launched its first health-impact bond, the Rajasthan Development Impact Bond, on the sidelines of the Global Entreprenurship Summit ( GES- 2017). The $2.25 million bond is aimed at improving maternal and new born health in Rajasthan.
