Xiaomi to Invest $1 Billion in Tech Startups in India
Chinese phone and appliances maker Xiaomi Corp will invest as much as $1 billion in 100 startups in India over the next five years, seeking to create an ecosystem of apps around its smartphone brand. Xiaomi and its sister company Shunwei Capital, which have purchased stakes in six Indian internet companies including Hungama and KrazyBee, will invest in businesses such as content, financial technology, hyperlocal services, including mobile phone repairs, and manufacturing in order to increase the adoption of mobile internet in the country.

Govt Unlikely to Allow FDI in Non- Food Retail
Wary of the potential electoral fallout of breaching its promise not to permit foreign direct investment (FDI) in multibrand retail, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has decided not to allow foreign supermarket chains to sell non-food items during its current tenure, which ends in 2019. The food processing ministry wants foreign supermarkets to be allowed to sell non-food items up to 25% of total sales. Foreign supermarket chains have pointed out that opening food retail chains does not make sense as the profit margin in such businesses is thin, and the food processing ministry, which is spearheading the proposal, has recommended allowing some non-food items to be sold in such stores to make the model viable.
Global supermarket chains such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc, Tesco Plc and Metro Cash and Carry have been keen on such a change and had conveyed their views to the central government.
TPG to Sell Stake in Asia Healthcare Platform
Asia Healthcare Holdings (AHH), the healthcare platform set up by American private equity fund TPG Capital, is in talks to raise as much as $100 million by selling a significant minority stake. TPG has hired Kotak Investment Banking to handle the deal. The valuation and the exact quantum of stake that will be sold will be decided in further discussions.

Prabhakaran Elected DSA President
Former FIFA South Central Asia Development Officer Shaji Prabhakaran was on Sunday elected as the president of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) for a four year tenure.
Besides Prabhakaran, veteran football administrator NK Bhatia was elected at the treasurer in the DSA’a Annual General Body meeting. Prabhakaran defeated rival presidential candidate Sharafatullah by a margin of eight votes.
The six vice-presidents elected were Anadi Barua, Anuj Gupta, Hem Chand, Syed Khurram Raza, Shonal Gupta, and Sq Ldr SK Singh.
