Hundreds of Christians in an impoverished county in rural China have swapped posters of Jesus Christ for portraits of President Xi Jinping as part of a local government poverty-relief programme.
As the local government in Yugan county, Jiangxi Province, redoubles its efforts to alleviate poverty, many believers have been told to take down the images of Jesus, and hang portraits of Mr. Xi instead.
Christian population in China is estimated to be around 90 million.
Airbus to Sell 430 Planes to Indigo
Airbus will sell 430 airplanes to US firm Indigo Partners for USD 49.5 billion in the European firm's biggest deal ever.
The deal includes 273 A320neos and 157 A321neos.
Indigo Partners is a Phoenix-based private equity firm. It owns Denver-based Frontier Airlines and owns part of Mexico's Volaris. It's managed by William Franke, a pioneer of the cheap tickets and high fees airline business that has spread overseas and is growing in the United States.
IndiGo and Indigo Partners are separate firms with separate management.
Law to Limit Cheap Chinese Imports
The European Parliament overwhelmingly passed a law that gives the EU far more legal freedom to tighten trade barriers against cheap imports from China.
The law introduces a new method for drawing up anti-dumping duties over imports from third countries that demonstrate significant distortions to the global market.
It also allows authorities to take into account environmental and workplace standards when setting import duties.
India has been ranked 14th in this year's Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2018 out of 56 nations and the European Union by environmental organisation Germanwatch, an improvement from its 20th position last year, for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by opting to transform its electricity sector towards green technology.
China with its high emissions and growing energy use ranks 41st in the list.

IDFC Bank Ties Up with TCS Unit
IDFC Bank has partnered TCS Merchant Pay to on-board merchants onto a digital payments platform that enables funds to be transferred into the shopkeeper's account using multiple channels, including Aadhaar Pay.
TCS Merchant Pay is a universal payments platform that supports all payments infrastructure (BHIM Aadhaar Pay, Unified Payments Interface, cards/Bharat QR). IDFC Bank is the first to use this platform, which has the ability to service all types of customers including those with phones, cards, and those without phones.
China launched a new meteorological satellite, Fengyun-3D. The satellite was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in Shanxi province.
Fengyun-3D is one of China's second generation of Polar-Orbiting Meteorological Satellites, which can provide global three dimensional all-weather and multi-spectral remote sensing images.
The satellite will form a network with the Fengyun-3C satellite.
The Uttar Pradesh government has made Aadhaar mandatory for board examinations in schools. All the students appearing for class 10 and class 12 board examinations, slated to be held in February next year, will need their Aadhaar cards handy.
The students will have to carry their Aadhaar cards along with the admit cards to the examination halls.
This move of the government aims at stopping the practice of fake candidates appearing in exams.
Life Expectancy Improves in India
According to a recent study published in the medical journal Lancet, Kerala has been adjudged as the healthiest state in India.
The Lancet study, which is India’s latest and most comprehensive health report card, says that life expectancy at birth has improved from 59.7 years in 1990 to 70.3 years in 2016 for females, and from 58.3 years to 66.9 years for males.
As per the Lancet study, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Chattisgarh have the highest disease burden rates, while Kerala and Goa have the lowest rates.
Delhi most Tourist-friendly
Delhi has been ranked number one among 30 Indian states for its relative competitiveness in the area of travel and tourism.
The biennial state ranking survey, released by the World Travel and Tourism Council India Initiative (WTTCII) and Hotelivate, employed 11 key parameters to evaluate the performance of each participating state and to identify the winner.
