The shortlist for The Hindu Prize, 2017, which recognises the best work of Indian literary fiction of the year, was announced at The Hindu Lit for Life Annual Lecture.
The works which made it to the shortlist are: Leila by Prayaag Akbar, When I Hit You by Meena Kandasamy, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy, The Small Town Sea by Anees Salim and Temporary People by Deepak Unnikrishnan.
The winner will be announced at the Lit for Life event to be held in January 2018.
Arki, a small town 38 km from Shimla, has shot into prominence as Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is contesting the seat in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections in November.

According to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has the highest income amongst all regional parties, followed by All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
BJP has the highest capital (National Party) at present followed by Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The reserve funds of BJP, between FY 2004-05 and 2015-16 increased by 700 per cent while that of Indian National Congress (INC) increased by 169 per cent.
The highest percentage increase was seen in All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) with 13447 per cent followed by BSP with 1194 per cent.
