Japan is set to propose a strategic dialogue with India, the United States and Australia to build ports and high-speed road networks across Asia to Africa, a plan aimed at counterfeiting China’s cross- continent “Belt and Road” plan. The Japanese proposal will be significant for India. Building cross-border infrastructure with friendly countries could help New Delhi blunt the Chinese initiative which it sees as an influence-securing project that also runs through Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
Market Regulator SEBI revised the framework for ‘block deals’ by providing two separate trading windows of 15 minutes each and increasing the minimum order size to Rs. 10 crore. The move is aimed at ensuring confidentiality of the large trades and stable prices for such transactions. At present, block deals for shares worth Rs. 5 crore through a single transaction is allowed.
RCom to Shut Down Big DTH
Reliance Communications (RCom) is set to close its Direct-to-Home (DTH) service. The decision to shut down the Big DTH service has been taken due to restructuring within the RCom. It has also submitted a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) informing it that their DTH license was expiring on November 18, 2017 and the company will not continue with DTH business further.

A near-completely fossilized skeleton of Jurassic-era ichthyosaur a type of marine reptile or `fish lizard' in Greek that lived alongside dinosaur has been discovered for the first time in India from Kutch district of Gujarat.The 5.5-metre-long skeleton was discovered in January 2016 by a team of Indo-German geologists near the Kaas hills on the outskirts of Bhuj town. At that time, it was believed to be fossil of a dinosaur. However, after studying the fossil for more than a year, the experts have concluded that the fossil was of ichthyosaur from the Jurassic era and was the first to be found in India.
The present ichthyosaur find represents the first nearly complete articulated skeleton of an ichthyosaur from India and the first record from the Jurassic of India.
Swiss Great Martina Hingis has announced she will retire from tennis at the end of this week’s WTA finals. The retirement will be Hingis’s third in a long and illustrious career during which she claimed 25 Grand Slam titles since her WTA tour debut in 1994.
Cricket Ground Named after Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar has truly become India’s global cricket ambassador. The former Indian captain, who has a road named after him in Wellington, now has a cricket field in Louisville, Kentucky dedicated to him.Gavaskar, a popular commentator, has a stand named after him at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.The 68-year-old Gavaskar inaugurated the Kentucky cricket field on October 15. It will serve as the home ground of Louisville Cricket Club, which is part of the 42- team MidWest Cricket League. Gavaskar was presented the keys of the ground by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.This is the first time that an entire field bears Sunil Gavaskar’s name. The India-Australia Test series has also been named after him as well as Australia’s former skipper Allan Border. India are the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Kohli named among the world's top 10 athletes with the `highest brand value'
Virat Kohli, 28, has been named among the world's top 10 athletes with the `highest brand value', ahead of football legend Lionel Messi. According to the list, published by Forbes magazine, Kohli's estimated brand value has been pegged at $14.5 million, which puts him at seventh position. Messi is on ninth position with a total brand value of $13.5 million.
Rajasthan Assembly passes Bill to provide 5% quota to OBCs
The Rajasthan Assembly passed by voice vote a fresh Bill to provide 5% quota to five communities including Gurjars, in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category by raising its limit from 21 to 26%. The new bill titled “Rajasthan Backward Classes, 2017” would provide for the reservation of seats in educational institutions in the state and of appointments and posts in services for category of more backward classes within the OBC. Five communities- Banjara, Gadiya Lohar, Gurjar, Raika and Gadaria - and their six sub-castes have been covered in the 5% category
