FPIs Pour Rs. 5,000 crore in Debt Markets
Overseas investors have pumped in nearly Rs. 5,000 crore into the country's debt markets in the last four trading sessions, primarily due to increase in the limit on foreign ownership of bonds.
However, in view of higher stock valuations, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) pulled out more than Rs. 550 crore from equities during this period.
Markets regulator SEBI had last week increased the FPI limit in central government securities which provided a longer rope for them to pump in money.
IndiGrid Buys Three Power Assets
IndiGrid, India's first infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) in the power sector, has made a Rs 1,490-crore acquisition by snapping up three transmission lines from its sponsor Sterlite Power. This is the largest buyout by an InvIT in the power transmission space in India.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that his government will provide financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to widows who want to remarry.
Chouhan also called on the people of the state to help the government to end practices like child marriage, dowry and others by providing equal opportunity to female child.
Recommendations of the Haj Review Committee
Women above 45 years will not need a male relative to accompany them for Haj as per recommendations of the Haj review committee for a new Haj policy.
As per Minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, women will be allowed to perform Haj without a 'Mehram' (a male relative by blood) in a group of four or more.
The Centre has also decided to abolish the subsidy for Haj pilgrims in accordance with a Supreme Court order.
Need to be On Board for Simultaneous Polls
Favouring simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls, the Election Commission said that all political parties need to be brought on board before such an exercise is carried out.
The Election Commission has always been of the view that simultaneous elections will give enough time for incumbent government to formulate policies and implement programmes continuously for a longer time without interruptions caused by imposition of model code of conduct.
Conducting the polls together would be possible only when necessary changes in the Constitution and Representation of the People Act are carried out.
