BBL’s first- quarter results showed that gross NPAs had increased to Rs. 175 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2017, from Rs. 86 crore at March-end. The bank ended the first quarter with a net NPA of 0.49% against 0.14% a year earlier.
Majority of the NPAs was on account of defaults in three States — Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
FreeCharge Acquired by Axis Bank
Private sector lender Axis Bank has decided to acquire digital wallet FreeCharge from e-commerce firm Snapdeal in an all cash deal worth Rs. 385 crore.
Axis Bank had entered into an agreement with Jasper Infotech Private Limited (which owns and operates Snapdeal) to acquire 100% stake in its subsidiaries viz. FreeCharge Payment Technologies Private Limited and Accelyst Solutions Private Limited, which together constitute the digital payments business under the FreeCharge brand.
Food Sector Draws $183m FDI
According to Union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the country is seeing a lot of interest from foreign players in the food processing sector and in the first two months of FY18 alone, India attracted Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of $183 million.

The Election Commission announced that by-elections to fill four vancancies in Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Delhi legislative assemblies will be held on August 23.
The counting will take place on August 28.
The four assembly seats are Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, Valpoi and Panaji in Goa and Bawana in Delhi.
Top Choice of JEE 2017 Toppers
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has emerged as the first choice of among JEE 2017 toppers. IIT Delhi was the second most favoured engineering college.
About 65 of the top 100 JEE rankers have opted for IIT Mumbai, while 31 chose IIT Delhi.
This signals a major shift in student's perception. About 20 years ago, IIT Kharagpur was the most preferred institute, followed by IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur.
