Pakistan Begins Fencing its Border with Afghanistan
Pakistan has begun to fence its over 2,400-kilometre-long, porous border with Afghanistan, amid a spike in infiltration by militants that has hit their ties.
Pakistan shares a long and porous border with Afghanistan, which runs through mountainous terrain and is largely unpatrolled. The Durand Line was drawn by the British rulers in 1896 and is disputed by Afghanistan, which also resists Pakistani attempts to erect any border fence.
French Defence Minister Resigns
French Defence Minister Sylvie Goulard announced her resignation over a fake jobs scandal that has hit her small centrist MoDem Party, allied with President Emmanuel Macron`s party.
Goulard, who was previously a member of the European Parliament, could not remain in the government while there was a possibility that she could be investigated over alleged misuse of expenses at the parliament.
Gulf Crisis Puts Contracts at Risk
As per reports, the political crisis in the Gulf is putting at risk business deals worth $2 billion in Arab countries that have cut ties with Qatar.
The majority of the contracts at risk, some $1.5bn (1.3bn euros), were in the area of construction.

Mahindra Aerostructures, an arm of Mahindra Aerospace, won a contract from Airbus to manufacture and supply components made of hard metals (aerospace steel, titanium and inconel) for A320neo and A350 XWB aircrafts.
Mahindra Aerostructures would execute the work together with France-based Segnere SAS., which has experience working with hard metals and supplies components directly to Airbus.
Polyhose Buys Ashok Leyland Unit
Polyhose India Private Ltd., a leading hose manufacturer in the country, has acquired the construction equipment manufacturing facility of the joint venture between Ashok Leyland and John Deere.
Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland formed a 50:50 joint venture in 2009 with the U.S.-based John Deere for earth moving equipment business, and the first product was unveiled in November 2011.
SpiceJet Signs Deal for Q400 Aircrafts
Low cost carrier SpiceJet signed a letter of intent with Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, for up to fifty Q400 turboprop airliners at the ongoing International Paris Air Show.
The $1.7 billion deal at list price is for twenty five Q400 turboprops and purchase rights on an additional 25 aircrafts. It is the single biggest order for the Q400.
In a big boost to BJP, its oldest ally Shiv Sena will support NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind in the presidential election.
Shiv Sena had earlier refrained from spelling out its stand on supporting Kovind for President.
Ram Nath Kovind resigned as the Bihar Governor and his resignation was accepted by President Pranab Mukherjee.
West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was given additional charge of Bihar.
Mayor and Deputy Mayor Posts in Shimla
BJP's Kusum Sadret was elected the Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor and party colleague Rakesh Sharma her deputy, a first for the state's opposition party in three decades.
The party bagged 17 of the 34 seats in the June MC elections, one seat short of a simple majority.
Indian Navy's First Indigenously-built Floating Dock
India`s first indigenously-built floating dock for the Indian Navy was launched, signalling a milestone in Indias quest for self-reliance in shipbuilding.
The floating dock built by the L&T Shipyard is an indigenously-designed and built platform with state of the art machinery and control systems capable of docking warships of up to 8,000 tonnes displacement.
According to L&T, the floating dock would be put through a series of harbour trials before delivery to the Navy.
