Reformist candidate Eshaq Jahangiri has dropped out of Iran’s presidential election to back President Hassan Rouhani. This will strengthen Mr. Rouhani’s fight against hard-liner Ebrahim Raisi, believed to be a favourite of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Sharif Government under Fire
Opposition leaders slammed Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government after the Dawn daily disclosed the master plan of the Beijing-funded China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which will link the port city of Gwadar in Balochistan to China’s Xinjiang province via a network of highways and railways.
The master plan, drawn up by the China Development Bank and the National Development Reform Commission of China, states that thousands of acres of agricultural land to be leased out to Chinese enterprises to set up projects in areas ranging from seed varieties to irrigation technology.
Iraq Forces in West Mosul
As per reports, Iraqi forces have recaptured nearly 90 per cent of West Mosul from the Islamic State group after retaking the city's eastern side earlier this year.
The drive to retake Mosul has been supported by US-led air strikes that have aided the Iraqi advance.
A monthly tally of global temperatures conducted by NASA concluded that the month of April 2017 was the second hottest April on record in 137 years of modern record-keeping.

EPFO Reduces Claim Settlement Period
EPFO has reduced the stipulated period for settlement of various claims such PF withdrawal, pension and insurance to 10 days from 20 at present.
In July 2015, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had reduced the timeline for settling various claims to 20 days.
Future Group Partner’s Khimji Ramdas Group

Ransomware Attack in India
A cyber security firm has detected over 48,000 ransomware attack attempts in the country, with West Bengal witnessing the most incidents.
As per observation the attack is not focused towards any particular industry but it is widely spread across industries especially those organisations which are online and connected.
According to reports, 60 per cent of the attempts by the malicious WannaCry ransomware were targeted at enterprises, while 40 per cent were on individual customers.
The top five cities impacted by the WannaCry ransomware are Kolkata, Delhi, Bhubaneshwar, Pune and Mumbai, while the top top five states with maximum detections are West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, NCR (Delhi), and Odisha.
