Sohail Mahmood will be Pakistan's new High Commissioner to India and is set to take charge at the end of this month.
Mahmood, now Pakistan's Ambassador to Turkey, will succeed Abdul Basit.
He joined the Foreign Service in 1985 and is one of the senior most officers of the Pakistan Foreign Service.

US Air Force`s secretive X-37B aircraft returned to Earth after being in the space non-stop for 718 days.
OTV-4 was the fourth and longest-running mission run by the US Air Force`s Rapid Capabilities Office. The programme began as a NASA project but was later transferred to the Pentagon.
The US Air Force has been very secretive about what exactly are the missions for which X-37B spends these long periods of time in the space.
Syria Will Abide De-escalation Plan
According to Syria’s Foreign Minister, his government would abide by the terms of a Russian plan for de-escalation zones so long as rebels also observed it.
Syria’s Foreign Minister said that rebels involved in the process must help clear areas they control of jihadist factions, including the former Nusra Front, and that the deal`s guarantors must help them to do this.
The deal for de-escalation zones was brokered by Russia, with backing from Turkey and Iran, during ceasefire talks.

Home Loan Rates Cut
India's largest lender SBI announced a steep interest rate reduction of up to 0.25 per cent for affordable housing loans, offering 8.35 percent to new women borrowers.
Under the new government scheme, loans under Rs. 30 lakh qualify for affordable housing.
In the male borrower category, the limited period offer is valid till July 31 and the reduction for the salaried is 0.20 percent to 8.40 percent and that of non-salaried 0.15 per cent.
With a home loan book of Rs 2.23 trillion, SBI leads the segment with 25-26 per cent market share.

Electrical products maker Havells has completed the acquisition of consumer durable business of Lloyd Electric & Engineering.
The acquisition has paved the way for the Noida-based company to foray into the consumer durables segment.
