Syria Deal Inked

  • Syrian regime allies Russia and Iran and rebel supporter Turkey signed a memorandum on a Moscow-backed plan to create safe zones in Syria to bolster a fragile truce.
  • The aim is to put an immediate end to the violence and provide the conditions for the safe, voluntary return of refugees as well as the immediate delivery of relief supplies and medical aid.

Warlord Hekmatyar Returns to Kabul

  • A former warlord returned to the Afghan capital, two decades after leaving the city where he stands accused of killing thousands of people.
  • Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a former Prime Minister, has returned to mainstream political life after his dormant Hezb-i-Islami militant group signed a peace deal with the government last September.
  • After his return to the capital he travelled to the presidential palace to meet President Ashraf Ghani.

Services Sector Grows for 3rd Month

  • According to a monthly survey, India’s services sector grew for the third straight month in April but the pace of growth moderated amid slower rise in new business and employment.
  • Indian services sector had returned to growth in February after three months of demonetisation-driven contraction.

BPL Parts Ways with Flipkart

  • In a setback to Flipkart, white goods maker BPL has moved to Amazon and will sell exclusively on the platform. BPL, which was one of the most popular television brands had stopped selling electronics in 2006, but re-entered the market last year after finding the brand had high customer recall.

  • The Indian men`s football team climbed to the 100th spot in the latest FIFA world rankings, their best rating in more than two decades.
  • India, where the national pastime of cricket is something of an obsession that squeezes other sports out of the running, last made the top 100 in 1996, reaching an all-time high of 94.

Retaliation for Soldiers' Beheading

  • As per reports, Army Chief General has hinted at retaliation following the beheading of two soldiers by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Army is weighing various options to respond to the beheading of the soldiers.

Swachh Bharat Awards

  • Urban Development Minister announced the Swachh Survekshan Awards, with Indore topping the list.
  • The Swachh survey included 434 cities across the country.
  • The top 10 cities are: Indore, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Surat, Mysuru, Tiruchirapally, NDMC National Capital territory, Navi Mumbai, Tirupati and Vadodara.
