Turkey Supports India's Bid for NSG

Outlining his government's views on a variety of contentious issues affecting India, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that Ankara will work closely with New Delhi and explore areas of mutual interest, including trade, to enhance bilateral relations.

The Turkish leader explained his government's views on issues such as Indo-Pak ties, Kashmir dispute, India's membership to the nuclear suppliers' group (NSG) and New Delhi's ties with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Nepal’s First Woman Chief Justice suspended

Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice Sushila Karki was suspended , after an impeachment motion against her was registered in Parliament by two major ruling parties that accused her of ‘interfering’ with the executive and issuing ‘prejudiced’ verdicts. As  fallout of the impeachment motion registered by the lawmakers of the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN, Deputy Prime Minister  and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi resigned over his dissatisfaction with  the move. 

China Europe, plan to build Moon Village

China and Europe are planning to built the first ever ‘Moon village’ that could serve as the launching pad for deep space missions such as one to Mars, or even as a spot for space tourism and lunar mining.

Bonanza for Home Buyers

The much-awaited Real Estate Act comes into force from 1st May with a promise of protecting the right of consumers and ushering in transparency but only 13 states and UTs have so far notified rules.

The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2016 was passed by Parliament in March last year and all the 92 sections of the Act have come into effect from 1st May.

Daily Revision of Petrol

Petrol and diesel prices will be revised on a daily basis from 1st May in select towns in sync with international rates, much like it happens in most advanced markets.

A pilot for daily revision of petrol and diesel prices will be first implemented in Puducherry, Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, Udaipur in Rajasthan, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and Chandigarh.

Low-cost Solar Cells

Indian scientists at IIT Roorkee have used the juicy Indian summer fruit Jamun to create inexpensive and more efficient solar cells.

Naturally occurring pigment found in jamun as an inexpensive photosensitiser for Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSCs) or Gratzel cells have been used.
Gratzel cells are thin film solar cells composed of a porous layer of titanium dioxide (TiO2) coated photoanode, a layer of dye molecules that absorbs sunlight, an electrolyte for regenerating the dye, and a cathode.
 

South Asia Satellite Takes off on May 5

The South Asia satellite will be launched on May 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today, describing it as India’s “priceless gift” to its neighbours as part of the “sabka sath sabka vikas” concept. Seven out of eight SAARC countries are part of Rs 235-crore project, which Pakistan refused to join it as it did not want the gift from India.

Real Estate Act comes into Force Today

The much awaited Real Estate Act comes into force from tomorrow, but only 13 states and UTs have so far notified rules under the Act, which will enable only regulation of the sector and not ‘strangulation’. The Real Estate (Regulation and Development Act) promises to bring in the much-desired transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the sector and the government has described the implementation of the act as the beginning of an era where the consumer is king. The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) bill, 2016 was passed by Parliament in March last year, and the 92 sections of the act come into effect from May 1. The states that have notified the rules are UP, Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.

Telangana Passes Amendments to Land Act

A special sitting of the Telangana Legislative Assembly passed amendments to the Land Acquisition Act, as suggested by the Union Law Ministry. The amendments to the Telangana Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment Act, 2016)  were passed within 10 minutes of the House being assembled for the day.
