North Korea has agreed to host a UN rights expert for the first time granting access to the special rapporteur on disabled people’s rights. Catalina Devandas- Aguilar is scheduled to arrive in the isolated nation , following an invitation from Pyongyang. Her visit will be the first ever to the country by an independent expert designated by the UN Human Rights Council . The rights council has accused North Korea of committing crimes against humanity and detaining upto 1,20,000 people in brutal prison camps. Devandas- Aguilar said that the upcoming visit marked an important chance to study the situation in the country, with a particular focus on children living with disabilities.

Robotic system to 3-D Print Basic Structure of Building
Scientists have designed a robotic system that can 3-D print the basic structure of a building, an advance that would make building houses faster and less exensive. The construction method in which polyurethane foam moulds are filled with concrete, is similar to traditional formwork techniques. The system is equipped with a scoop that could be used to both prepare the building surface and acquire local materials. The idea is such that systems could be deployed to remote regions or to areas for disaster relief after a major storm or earthquake.

Neena Varkil bagged the gold in women’s long jump as India won six medals in the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix athletics meet. World Junior Record holder Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra qualified for the IAAF World Championships, London, to be held in August, though he took the silver. Kerala’s Neena produced the best jump of 6.37m to clinch the gold. Besides Neena’s gold, India won four silver medals through Manpreet Kaur, Neeraj Chopra, Dutee Chand and Tintu Lauka, and a bronze medal through Om Prakash Karhana.

Vishwakarma Day to be Celebrated as Labour Day
The state government has decided not to celebrate May 1 as Labour Day. Instead Vishwakarma Day which falls on October 20 this year, will be celebrated as Labour Day. Labour and Employment Minister in his statement said that May 1 will not be celebrated as Labour Day as it is a legacy of the West. Vishwakarma day will be celebrated as Labour Day as it symbolises the Indian tradition and culture.
Green Signal to Appointment of Lokpal
The Supreme Court gave green signal to Narendra Modi government to proceed with the appointment of Lokpal, saying there was no legal hurdle in appointing the country’s first anti-corruption watchdog without the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on the selection panel. Terming the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, as an eminently workable piece of legislation , Justice Ranjan Go goi said that there is no justification to keep the enforcement of the act under suspension till the amendments, as proposed, are carried out. It means that no nominee of the Opposition will be part of the Lokpal selection process.
