Pakistan has decided to borrow $600 million from China to increase its forex reserves as its foreign currency reserves have declined by USD 1.7 billion due to end of the International Monetary Fund programme.
This is for the second time that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government has decided to take help of a friendly country in the last three years to enhance its forex reserves as earlier $1.5 billion were gifted by Saudi Arabia to Pakistan in 2014.
The loan will be provided on commercial terms by the Bank of China and is likely to be given at an interest rate ranging between 3.1% and 3.2% for a period of three years.
Iranians Celebrate 1979 Revolution
Iranians began a nationwide celebration to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the 1979 revolution with rallies around the country.

Despite a slowdown in the number of new natural gas wells in the Marcellus Shale region of Northeast Pennsylvania, new research finds that atmospheric methane levels in the area are still increasing. Measurements of methane and other air pollutants taken three years apart in the rural areas of Pennsylvania that have been the target of natural gas development over the last decade have revealed a substantial increase from 2012 to 2015.
Impacted by demonetisation, industrial production contracted to a four-month low of 0.4 per cent in December with consumer durables output plummeting by over 10 percent and an overall decline in manufacturing.
It reflects deterioration in the manufacturing sector on account of cash crunch.
According to data released by the Central Statistics Office, the previous low was a contraction of 0.7 percent in August.
SBI Q3 Profit Jumps
Country's largest lender State Bank of India posted a 71 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs. 2,152.2 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2016.
Total income on consolidated basis increased to Rs. 75,537.2 crore for the quarter under review.
Tata Communications Completes Sale of Neotel
Tata Communications has completed sale of its South Africa based telecom arm Neotel to Liquid Telecom for about Rs 3,200 crore.
Liquid Telecom is a privately owned pan-African telecoms group, majority owned by Econet Wireless Global.
In June 2016, the shareholders of Neotel entered into an agreement with a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) which is 70 per cent owned by Liquid Telecom and the remaining 30 per cent by Royal Bafokeng Holdings.
The ESA and NASA are teaming up to take humans to the moon within the next few years.
The European Space Agency (ESA) and aerospace company Airbus have agreed with NASA to build a module for a second, manned mission that will fly around the moon as early as 2021, which will be launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.
The manned Orion mission will take humans to the moon for the first time in 50 years. NASA's Orion capsule is also aimed at taking astronauts to Mars and asteroids in the following years.
