  • The EU warned Iran against stoking mistrust by continuing ballistic missile tests, after Tehran told the new US administration not to use the issue as a pretext to create fresh tensions.
  • US President Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked the nuclear accord, threatening to reverse it or find other ways of sanctioning Iran.

ICICI Q3 Net Shrinks

  • ICICI Bank reported a net profit of Rs. 2,442 crore for the quarter ended December 2016, down 19% from Rs. 3,018 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
  • The bank's earnings were hit by an increase in bad loans, which slowed interest income growth.

GMR Inks MoUs Worth Rs. 47,000 crore

  • GMR Infrastructure Limited’s subsidiary Kakinada SEZ Ltd (KSEZ) has signed a series of MoUs worth Rs. 47,000 crore during the 'Sunrise Andhra Pradesh Investment Meet' held at Visakhapatnam.
  • State-owned oil & gas players are planning to set up a cracker unit at a proposed investment of Rs. 40,000 crore.
  • KSEZ also inked MoUs worth Rs. 7,000 crore with five companies -- Oil Country Tubular, Kamineni Steel & Power, United Seamless Tubular, Deepak Phenolics and DCM Shriram -- for setting up manufacturing facilities.

Economic Survey 2017

  • The Economic Survey pegged the country's economic growth at a conservative level of 6.75-7.5 percent for the next fiscal.
  • As per the Economic Survey, demonetisation will have both short-term costs and long-term benefits.

Nicolai Adam to Quit as India U-17 Coach

  • All India Football Federation's firm stance on Nicolai Adam seemed to have paid off with the beleaguered India U-17 World Cup coach appearing to have agreed to resign from his job.
  • The German was asked to leave or be sacked following accusations of physical abuse against him by the young players.
  • As many as 21 players in a signed letter to AIFF had alleged that the coach had beaten them up and terrorised them during training sessions.

India and Russia Plan to Counter Terrorism

  • India and Russia agreed to have a joint action plan to counter the global scourge of terrorism.
  • The decision was taken at a high-level meeting where the Indian side was led by Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry, Preeti Saran, while the Russian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg V. Syromolotov.

  • Former Union Minister and Indian Union Muslim League leader E. Ahamed passed away after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the Parliament.
