Refugee Camp Mistakenly Bombed

  • At least 52 aid workers and civilians were killed when an air force jet accidentally bombed a camp in northeast Nigeria instead of Boko Haram militants.
  • The military blamed the fog of war for the mistake.
  • The bombing comes as Nigeria`s military claims further gains against the Islamic State group affiliate, pushing them out of captured territory and their remote bases in Borno.

Underwater Search for MH370 Suspended

  • As per Australia, China and Malaysia involved in the deep-sea search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, ended without any trace being found of the plane that vanished in 2014 with 239 people on board.
  • The location of Flight MH370 has become one of the world`s greatest aviation mysteries since the plane disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur.
  • The three countries scoured 120,000-sq-km (75,000-sq-mile) area of the Indian Ocean sea floor that has been the focus of the almost-three-year search.

India to Grow by 7.7% in FY 2017

  • As per the United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2017 report, India's economy is projected to grow by 7.7 percent in fiscal year 2017 benefiting from strong private consumption and gradual introduction of significant domestic reforms.
  • This report of the UN comes a day after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) cut India's growth rate for the current fiscal year to 6.6 percent.

SBI Raises USD 500 Million

  • State Bank of India raised USD 500 million through an international bond sale of five-year bonds at coupon of 3.306 per cent per annum and getting oversubscribed three times.

  • Cricket icon Kapil Dev has been inducted into Legends Club 'Hall of Fame' in presence of former India captains Ajit Wadekar, Sunil Gavaskar and Nari Contractor at the Cricket Club of India.
  • Dev, who led India to the emphatic World Cup victory in 1983, is considered as the country's greatest all-rounder. He was presented with a citation by former India player and Legends Club President Madhav Apte.

  • Vishu, largely contributed to black hole physics and his contribution dates even before the word 'black hole' was coined.

Tata Motors Appoints New Chairman

  • Tata Motors appointed Tata Sons chief designate Natarajan Chandrasekaran as chairman with immediate effect.
  • The former CEO of Tata Consultancy Services was last week appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons, replacing the interim boss Ratan Tata.
  • He is the first non-Parsi Chairman of the 150-year old Tata Group.
