China Installs Weapons on Disputed Islands

  • As per claims by a US think tank, China has installed weapon systems on all seven artificial islands it has built in the South China Sea.

Trade Deficit Widens in November

  • The country’s trade deficit rose to $13 billion in November as imports, including purchases of gold, outpaced exports of goods. The trade deficit in November 2015 was $10.47 billion.

Cholamandalam Enters into Pact with Dena Bank

  • Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Co. Ltd. has entered into a corporate agency agreement with Dena Bank to distribute the former’s insurance products.
  • Under the agreement, Chola MS will offer a wide range of non-life insurance products to Dena Bank customers through its nationwide branch network.
  • Through this partnership, both Dena Bank and Chola MS seek to fulfill the non-life insurance needs of customers.

Maharashtra Municipal Elections 2nd Phase

  • The polling to elect 324 councillors and 14 municipal council presidents in Latur and Pune districts witnessed 72.18 per cent voters exercising their franchise.
  • The BJP, which had emerged as the top grosser in first round of local bodies polls was pushed to second position with 81 seats, followed by Congress (45), Shiv Sena (23), Independents (26), AIMIM (6), while Others, including unrecognised parties (36) and local 'aghadis' or fronts (14), won 50 seats.
  • Sharad Pawar-led NCP scored an edge over the BJP in the second phase of municipal council polls held in two districts of Maharashtra.
