Morocco Still Lacks Government

  • A month since winning Morocco`s parliamentary elections, Islamist Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane is still haggling over his future governing coalition.
  • At the head of a coalition government for five years, Benkirane was reappointed and charged with forming a new government after winning 125 out of 395 seats in the lower house.
  • The PJD still needs to work with other parties to form a working majority.

EELV Picks Candidate for 2017 Presidential Race

  • France`s green party EELV elected MEP and former Greenpeace activist Yannick Jadot as its candidate for next year`s presidential election.
  • Jadot, 49, won the party`s primary with 54 percent of the vote, defeating fellow MEP Michele Rivasi who took 40.75 percent.

Bronze Age City Discovered

  • Archaeologists have uncovered a large Bronze Age city in northern Iraq which was established in about 3000 BC and flourished for more than 1200 years.
  • The archaeologists also discovered settlement layers dating from the Akkadian Empire period (2340-2200 BC), which is regarded as the first world empire in human history.
  • Using geomagnetic resistance measurements, the archaeologists discovered indications of an extensive road network, various residential districts, grand houses and a kind of palatial building dating from the Bronze Age.

Delhi Smog

  • The Delhi government has imposed a ban on use of fire crackers during marriages and other events except for religious functions, following directions from Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to bring down air pollution.
  • The government also started the process of deregistration of 15-year-old diesel vehicles in the city.
  • The move comes a day after Kejriwal announced closure of all schools till Wednesday, ban on construction and demolition activities for next five days and temporary closure of Badarpur Power Plant.

  • Godrej Consumer Products has reported a 44% rise in consolidated net profit for the second quarter ended September 30, 2016.
  • Net sales increased by 15%.

Rajeshwar Rao Appointed as Executive Director

  • The Reserve Bank of India has appointed M. Rajeshwar Rao as executive director after G. Mahalingam voluntary retired from the apex bank.
  • As ED, Rao will look after the department of statistics and information management, financial markets operation and international. In his earlier role, he worked as the apex bank's chief general manager, financial markets operations department.
  • Rao joined the RBI in 1984.

Rahul Gandhi's Coronation Delayed

  • The elevation of Rahul Gandhi has been delayed again with Sonia Gandhi continuing to work as Congress chief for another year.
  • Many in the party are divided on the timing of Rahul's elevation and want it to be deferred till the upcoming assembly polls. Some party leaders feel that in view of the current situation Sonia Gandhi should continue to steer the party and not take a back seat.
