ISIS Chief Baghdadi Surrounded by Army

  • As per reports, Islamic State chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been trapped by Iraqi Army, which entered the terrorist group's stronghold of Mosul for the first time in more than two years for a final assault.
  • Baghdadi has kept himself concealed for the last eight or nine months.
  • Iraqi troops entered Gogjali, a district inside Mosul's city limits, and later the borders of the more built-up Karama district.

South Korea Names New PM and Finance Minister

  • South Korea`s presidential office named a new Prime Minister and Finance Minister.
  • The reshuffle provoked anger from opposition parties saying Park was trying to divert attention from the political crisis, which has dragged her approval rating to an all-time low.
  • As per Park Jie-won, leader of the opposition People`s Party, this replacement of the prime minister and finance minister can`t happen without discussing it with the opposition.

SBI Cuts Home Loans

  • State Bank of India has cut home loan rates to a 9.1%, the lowest in six years, as part of a festive scheme.
  • The rate cut comes on the back of a general interest rate reduction as SBI reduced its benchmark rates by 15 basis points.
  • The latest round of rate cut will be available only for new borrowers as the bank has done this by revising the spread over the benchmark.

  • India has decided to withdraw eight officials from the High Commission in Islamabad, amidst growing tension between the two countries after a Pakistani High Commission staffer in Delhi was caught in an espionage ring and expelled.
