AT&T to buy Time Warner for $85 billion

AT&T Inc. Has reached an agreement in principle to buy Time Warner Inc. For about $85 billion, paving the way for what would be the biggest deal in the world this year, giving the telecom company control of cable TV channels HBO and CNN, film studio Warner Bros and other media assets.

AT&T, which sells wireless phones and broadband services, has already made moves to turn itself into a media powerhouse, buying satellite TV provider, DirecTV last year for $48.5 billion.

MNS allows Bollywood to do business after `5cr Pak tax’

Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ will release on schedule next week after Bollywood producers agreed not to hire Pakistani artistes in future, giving in to Maharashtra’s mercurial politician Raj Thackeray who had threatened to block the film.


The producers also agreed that under-production films featuring Pakistani actors will pay 5 crore to an army welfare fund as “penance”. This could apply to Shah Rukh Khan-starrers Raees and Dear Zindagi.

India wins third World Kabaddi Cup

India fought off a tough challenge from Iran to win their third successive Kabaddi World Cup on Saturday. India overturned a first-half deficit with a superb second half performance to win 38-29. India have thus won all the three Kabaddi World Cups held so far. They have beaten Iran in the finals of all the three editions.

The experienced Ajay Thakur played a crucial role in India’s win with his raiding prowess. Iran enjoyed a stronger start and dominated the first half. But the Indians showed superb fighting spirit and aggression to pull off the win.
