South Africa to Quit International Criminal Court

  • As per reports, after Burundi, South Africa is pulling out of the International Criminal Court, making the country the second in a week to leave the tribunal that pursues the world`s worst atrocities.
  • According to South Africa`s Justice Minister Michael Masutha the ICC`s obligations are inconsistent with domestic laws giving sitting leaders diplomatic immunity.

Cuba Urges US to Lift Blockade

  • Cuba has renewed its call on the US Congress to end the economic and trade embargo held against the island for over 55 years.
  • There are a series of legal elements and laws included in US legislation like the Torricelli Act or the Helms Burton Act which the President cannot overturn as only the US Congress can do so.

New Species of Dinosaur Discovered

  • Australian researchers have discovered a new species of long-necked dinosaurs in northeastern Australia.
  • This species could have arrived from South America almost 105 million years ago.
  • The Savannasaurus belong to a branch of the sauropods known as Titanosaurs, the largest land animals to have inhabited the Earth.

Fine Recommended on Airtel, Vodafone and Idea

  • Telecom regulator Trai recommended a total penalty of Rs. 3,050 crore on incumbent players Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular for denying interconnection facility to newcomer Reliance Jio Infocomm.
  • Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have been slapped with a fine of Rs. 50 crore for 21 circles each (except J&K). Idea faced the same amount of penalty for 19 circles each.
  • The regulator recommended to the Department of Telecom imposing penalties on the big three players after it found that the operators were non-compliant with licence conditions.

HCL Agrees to Buy Butler America Aerospace

  • HCLTechnologies has agreed to acquire U.S. based engineering and design services firm Butler America Aerospace, LLC.
  • Butler Aerospace is a wholly owned subsidiary of Butler America LLC and serves customers primarily in the Aerospace and Defense industries in the U.S. to whom it provides Engineering & Design services in the areas of Mechanical and Structural Design among others.

European Mars Lander May Have Exploded

  • As per a NASA probe the European Mars Lander, named Schiaparelli, suffered a violent crash on the surface of Mars.
  • Newly released pictures from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter show a dark patch that scientists assume was caused by the lander’s impact.
  • Contact to the vehicle was lost around 50 seconds before the expected landing time, leaving its fate uncertain.
