China Raps U.S. over Interventions in Asia

  • Beijing rapped Washington for its interventions in Asia, as tensions grow between the two powers over territorial disputes in the South China Sea and how to handle increasingly erratic North Korea.
  • Washington argues that China’s moves pose a challenge to freedom of navigation and has sought to challenge its claims by dispatching military ships and aircraft to the area.
  • China has also raised concerns over Washington and Seoul’s decision this summer to install a THAAD missile defence system in South Korea in response to growing worries about its northern neighbour's nuclear programme.

India’s Yarn Exports Decline

  • India’s cotton yarn exports fell 11.58 per cent in value terms and 4.44 per cent in terms of volume during April - June this year compared to the same period last year.
  • Exports to China, the main buyer of Indian cotton yarn, have declined.
  • China imported 149.66 million kg of cotton yarn during the first three months of last financial year (2015-2016) and it dropped to 99.09 million kg during the same period this year.

  • Tata Communications and Skylab, a Singapore-based technology solutions provider, have partnered to help more enterprises adopt the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Skylab provides advanced data harvesting, processing and delivery solutions to its customers over a scalable platform called Data Logistics Cloud.
  • Skylab has chosen Tata Communications as its cloud partner to ensure high levels of flexibility and reliability for customers through Tata Communications’ IZO Cloud Enablement Platform and leading global network and partnerships.

Portfolios of Jayalalithaa Given to Panneerselvam

  • All the portfolios being held by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa have been reallocated to Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam.
  • The portfolios, thus transferred, include Public, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service, General Administration, District Revenue Officers, Police and Home.
  • Panneerselvam will also preside over the Cabinet meetings.
  • He has twice stepped in as CM when Ms. Jayalalithaa had to step down.
