Russia Close to Joint Military Action with the US

As per Russia, Russia and the United States are close to starting joint military action against militants in Syria's Aleppo.
Fighting for control of Aleppo has intensified in recent weeks and there have been some gains for rebel groups battling Syrian government forces.

MRPL to Shut Secondary Units

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) plans to shut its gasoil hydro-desulphuriser and a hydrocracker next month for maintenance.
State-owned MRPL operates 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) coastal refinery in the South.
From mid-September, it will also shut its 1.2 million tonnes a year hydrocracker I for about a month.

Space X Successfully Lands Falcon 9 Rocket

It was Space X's sixth success in a row. The aerospace company successfully landed its Falcon 9 rocket on a floating drone ship in Atlantic Ocean.
Falcon 9 rocket was recovered after the launch of a Japanese communications satellites into orbit 20,000 miles above the Earth. This was company's eighth launch of its reusable rocket this year.

Sindhu and Srikanth Keep India's Hopes Alive

Indian shuttlers P. V. Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth booked their quarter-finals berths to keep medal hopes alive.
Sindhu defeated China’s Tai Tzu-ying and her spot in the quarter-finals.
Srikanth defeated world No. 5 Jan Jorgensen of Denmark to reach the quarter-finals.

Vikas Krishan Ousted

Former Asian Games gold-medallist Vikas Krishan was defeated by Melikuziev in the quarter-finals to bow out of the Olympic Games, ending India's boxing challenge without a medal for the first time in eight years.

Usain Bolt's Third Consecutive Olympic Title

Usain Bolt wrote his name in the history books, winning his third consecutive Olympic title in the men`s 100 metre event at the Rio Games, clocking a timing of 9.81 seconds.
Justin Gatlin, Bolt`s biggest rival in the competition, took the silver with an impressive 9.84 seconds.

Pakistan Invites New Delhi for Talks

The Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan was called by Chaudhry and handed over an invitation addressed to Jaishankar.
The letter highlights the international obligation of both the countries to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
India-Pakistan ties have become frosty after large scale violence broke out in Jammu and Kashmir following the killing of militant Burhan Wani in July.
