MRPL to Shut Secondary Units

  • Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) plans to shut its gasoil hydro-desulphuriser and a hydrocracker next month for maintenance.
  • State-owned MRPL operates 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) coastal refinery in the South.
  • From mid-September, it will also shut its 1.2 million tonnes a year hydrocracker I for about a month.

Space X Successfully Lands Falcon 9 Rocket

  • It was Space X's sixth success in a row. The aerospace company successfully landed its Falcon 9 rocket on a floating drone ship in Atlantic Ocean.
  • Falcon 9 rocket was recovered after the launch of a Japanese communications satellites into orbit 20,000 miles above the Earth. This was company's eighth launch of its reusable rocket this year.

  • Usain Bolt wrote his name in the history books, winning his third consecutive Olympic title in the men`s 100 metre event at the Rio Games, clocking a timing of 9.81 seconds.
  • Justin Gatlin, Bolt`s biggest rival in the competition, took the silver with an impressive 9.84 seconds.

Pakistan Invites New Delhi for Talks

  • India-Pakistan ties have become frosty after large scale violence broke out in Jammu and Kashmir following the killing of militant Burhan Wani in July.
