Pushpa Kamal Dahal Elected as PM of Nepal

Nepal`s Parliament elected former guerrilla and Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal as Prime Minister after his predecessor resigned following deadly unrest over a divisive new Constitution.
Dahal, head of the Maoist party, ran unopposed and secured 363 out of 573 votes to become the Himalayan nation`s premier for a second time.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar Designated as Terrorist Group

The US authorities have designated a Pakistan-based Islamist organisation, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, as a global terrorist organisation.
The group was founded by a former TTP leader in August 2014.
The designation as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorists" means that JuA`s property is frozen and people in the US are banned from having any dealings with it.

GST Bill Passed

The national sales tax or GST Bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha to replace a raft of different state and local taxes with a single unified value added tax system to turn the country into the world's biggest single market.
The legislation was approved by the Upper House with 203 votes in favour and none against.
The GST will replace more than a dozen levies central and state levies, including central excise duty, service tax and central sales tax as well as VAT on sale of goods and entry tax.

Infosys Invests in Israel’s Cloudyn

Infosys has picked up a minority stake in Cloudyn, an Israel-based cloud management and optimisation provider, by investing $4 million. This is the eighth investment by the company after it formed the $500 million ‘Innovation Fund’ to invest in start-ups focused on cloud and other digital technologies.
Cloudyn enables enterprises to manage and optimise their hybrid, multi-cloud deployments. The solution provides visibility into usage, performance and cost, coupled with actionable recommendations for confident cloud growth.

New Motor Bill Gets Cabinet Nod

Government approved the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016 that proposes hefty penalties for violation of traffic norms including up to Rs. 10,000 fine for drunken driving and Rs. 2 lakh compensation for hit-and-run cases.
The bill also has provision of up to Rs. 10 lakh compensation in case of road fatality.

Dr. Subhash Chandra Becomes Rajya Sabha MP

Essel Group Chairman Dr. Subhash Chandra took oath as Rajya Sabha MP.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana.
