Ashok Leyland Net Profit Grows

  • Riding on robust medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales, Ashok Leyland saw a 101% jump in net profit in the first quarter ended June 2016.
  • The commercial vehicle maker clocked Rs. 290.78 crore, up from Rs. 144.50 crore in the year-ago quarter.

India Received $5.34 billion FDI in April-May

  • India received $5.34 billion foreign direct investment in the first two months of the current financial year.
  • During April-May $4.76 billion FDI came under automatic route, while $582 million came through the approval route.
  • During the two months, defence received no FDI, while pharmaceuticals attracted $452.86 million foreign inflows.
  • The other sectors include air transport ($5.65 million), information and broadcasting ($39.2 million) and retail trading ($7.94 million).

UIDAI Gets First CEO

  • A. B. Pandey was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
  • Pandey is the first CEO of UIDAI, which was formed in January 2009.
