Pakistan and Afghanistan Torkham Border Issue

  • Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to peacefully resolve a border issue that has seen both sides locked in a fierce stand-off over construction of a gate by Pakistan.
  • Clashes between troops of the two sides at Torkham, the busiest border crossing.
  • The talks in Islamabad saw both sides discuss ways to find out a solution to the issue. Afghanistan is against construction of a gate at Torkham.

Patna Air Quality Worse than Delhi

  • According to World Health Organisation (WHO) urban air quality database 2016, the air quality in Patna is worse than Delhi. Out of 3,000 cities in 103 countries of the world, Patna is at the sixth and Delhi is at eleventh position in terms of air pollution.
  • Shockingly, including Bihar's capital Gwalior, Allahabad and Raipur are among the top 10 polluted cities in the world.

100% FDI in Defence, Civil Aviation and Pharma Approved

  • The government launched a second wave of FDI reforms allowing 100 percent inflows in civil aviation and food processing sectors while also easing norms in defence and pharmaceuticals.
  • According to Narendra Modi, the decisions will make India the most open economy in the world for FDI.
  • Now most of the sectors would be under automatic approval route, except a small negative list.

  • A new supercomputer from China has topped the latest list of the world's most powerful machines.
  • At its peak, the 93 petaflop Sunway TaihuLight can perform around 93,000 trillion calculations per second.
  • It is twice as fast and three times as efficient as the previous leader Tianhe-2, also from China.

First Concrete Bomb Shelter in Poonch

  • The Indian Army handed over the first concrete bomb shelter to villagers living near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir`s Poonch district.
  • As part of civic activities under Sadbhavana (Goodwill) initiative, the Army at Saujiyan constructed an underground concrete bomb shelter at Gali Maidan near the LoC in Poonch district.
