France First Major Nation to Ratify UN Climate Deal

  • The French President finalised ratification of the Paris climate accord reached in December 2015, making France the first industrialised country to do so.
  • According to him, the deal will not come into force unless at least 55 countries responsible for at least 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions ratify it.
  • So far 17 states have ratified the deal.

Exports Fall for 18th Month in a Row

  • Exports fell for the 18th month in a row in May, though several non-oil sectors such as engineering and gems and jewellery saw a rise in outward shipments.
  • Imports, too, dipped by 13.16 percent to USD 28.44 billion in the month under review. The trade deficit narrowed to USD 6.27 billion in May.

SBI Enters into Alliance with American Express

  • State Bank of India has entered into alliance with and American Express to expand AmEx card acceptance in India.
  • the partnership will enable SBI to provide acceptance of all major cards including AmEx by its merchants and American Express to deliver more value to its card members with enhanced acceptance across categories.

Dhoni 4th Wicketkeeper to Reach 350 Dismissals in ODIs

  • M. S. Dhoni became the fourth wicketkeeper in the world to reach 350 dismissals in One-day Internationals.
  • Dhoni has so far taken 261 catches and effected 89 stumpings in 278 matches.
  • Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara leads the list with 482 dismissals followed by Australian Adam Gilchrist with 472 dismissals and South Africa's Mark Boucher with 424 dismissals.
