Climate Change Making the Arctic Green

  • According to NASA scientists, the Arctic region is going green.
  • NASA scientists have made the discovery using 29 years of data from satellite imageries, which show extensive greening in the Arctic.
  • In a changing climate, almost a third of the land cover, much of it Arctic tundra, is looking more like landscapes found in warmer ecosystems.
  • Temperatures are warming fast in the Arctic which has led to longer seasons for plants to grow in and changes to the soils.

L&T Gets Orders Worth Rs. 2,161 Crore

  • The construction arm of L&T has won orders worth Rs 2,161 crore across various business segments.
  • Its transportation infrastructure business has won a design and build order worth Rs. 847 crore, Water and effluent treatment business of the company received an order worth Rs. 709 crore, power transmission and distribution business has bagged EPC orders worth Rs. 403 crore and the company's metallurgical and material handling business also bagged an order worth Rs. 202 crore.

First Indian City to Have Its Own Mascot

  • The dolphin became Assam state capital's mascot with Kamrup Metropolitan district administration declaring the Gangetic river mammal as the mascot.
  • As per Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner M. Angamuthu the animal, locally known as 'Sihu', would be the city animal of Guwahati.
  • Now, Guwahati has become the first city in the country to have its own city animal.
