Argentina’s Credit Rating Raised

  • Moody`s raised Argentina`s sovereign rating as the country prepared to return to international debt markets after 15 years.
  • Moody raised its key rating for Argentina`s sovereign debt to B3 from Caa.
  • Argentina is preparing to issue its first sovereign bonds since its default in 2001 in a step toward settling its debts from that period.

Job Growth Falls to 7-year Low

  • As per a survey by the Labour Bureau, employment generation in eight key sectors, including gems & jewellery, handloom, leather and automobiles, was at seven-year low of 1,35,000 jobs in 2015.
  • Employment was increased by 4.21 lakh in 2014, 4.19 lakh in 2013, 3.21 lakh in 2012, 9.29 lakh in 2011, 8.7 lakh in 2010 and 12.8 lakh in 2009.
  • In 2015, IT/BPOs sector led the race with 76,000 employment generation during the year. Some sectors contributing to the increase in employment during 2015 are textiles, including apparels and Metals.

Forex Reserves at Record High

  • The foreign exchange reserves touched a new life-time high of USD 359.917 billion after they surged by USD 157.4 million, helped by rise in foreign currency assets.
  • In the previous week, reserves had increased by a whopping USD 4.2 billion to touch USD 359.759 billion.
  • Foreign currency assets, expressed in dollar terms, include the effect of appreciation and depreciation of non-US currencies such as the euro, pound and the yen held in the reserves.

Interstellar Dust Detected for First Time

  • NASA's Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn has detected and analysed the faint but distinct signature of interstellar dust coming from beyond our solar system.
  • The tiny dust grains were speeding through the Saturn system at over 72,000 km per hour.
  • The composition of the dust has been analysed for the first time, showing it to be made of a very specific mixture of minerals not ice.

Panagarh Airbase Renamed

  • The Indian Air Force has renamed the Panagarh airbase in West Begal after has been renamed after Marshal of Air Force Arjan Singh.
  • Arjan Singh took over the IAF in the rank of air marshal in August 1964 and became the first Indian to lead the force in conflict when the India-Pakistan War broke out in 1965.
  • After retirement, he was envoy to Switzerland and Kenya and governor of Delhi.
