Brussels Suicide Bomb Attacks

  • Islamic State claimed responsibility for suicide bomb attacks on Brussels airport and a rush-hour metro train in the Belgian capital.
  • The coordinated assault triggered security alerts across Europe and drew global expressions of support, four days after Brussels police had captured the prime surviving suspect in Islamic State`s attacks on Paris last November.

Mahamadou Issoufou Scores Landslide Win

  • According to official results, Niger`s President Mahamadou Issoufou secured 92 percent of the vote in a controversial run-off ballot boycotted by the opposition.
  • The poll pitted 64-year-old Issoufou, a former mining engineer nicknamed "the Lion", against Amadou, 66, a former premier and parliament speaker known as "the Phoenix.”
  • Issoufou had won 48.4 percent in the first round in February.

Indian Electronics Manufacturing Sector

  • As per Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, total investments in electronics manufacturing sector in India, one of the world\'s largest consumer electronics market, has crossed Rs. 1.28 lakh crore.
  • In 2014, the total investment in electronics manufacturing was around Rs. 11,700 crore and now it is Rs. 1,28,000 crore plus.
  • Government is working towards making India a hub for electronics manufacturing.
  • The government had approved \'India BPO Promotion Scheme\' (IBPS) for promoting BPO/ITeS operations across India with an outlay of about Rs. 493 crore during the remaining period of 12th Five Year Plan - up to March 31, 2017.

India to Outperform Emerging Markets

  • According to a survey conducted by Morgan Stanley, India is expected to outperform emerging markets in 2016 although there is a considerable weakening of conviction among investors regarding the country compared with that in the second half of last year.
  • The concerns over the health of the global economy have triggered a risk averse sentiment among global investors, who had withdrawn money from riskier assets including India.
  • But the survey showed that a majority of foreign investors continue to have confidence in India\'s growth story.

  • Usain Bolt has confirmed that 2016 Rio Olympics will be his last.
  • Usain Bolt had raised the prospect of prolonging his Olympic career in January after revealing that his coach Glen Mills had suggested his fitness would carry him through to the 2020 games in Tokyo.
  • As per reports, his biggest dream at the Olympics is to win three gold medals again.

India has Highest Number of People without Clean Water

  • As per the international charity Water Aid, 75.8 million Indians or 5 percent of the country\'s population are forced to either buy water at high rates or use supplies that are contaminated with sewage or chemicals.
  • This accounts for more than a tenth of the 650 million people worldwide without clean water access.
