Hezbollah Declared a Terror Group

  • The Arab League declared Iran ally Hezbollah a terrorist group, after Gulf monarchies adopted the same stance over the Lebanese Shiite movement`s support for the regime in Syria`s war.
  • The move reflects the worsening tensions between Shiite Iran and the six-nation Sunni-dominated Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), of which regional powerhouse Saudi Arabia is a key member.
  • This decision was endorsed by the majority of foreign ministers of the pan-Arab body except for Lebanon and Iraq which expressed reservations.
  • The United States, Canada and Australia have listed Hezbollah as a "terrorist" group. The European Union has also blacklisted its military wing.

Biggest Object in the Universe so Far

  • Astronomers have discovered of the BOSS Great Wall, a group of superclusters that span roughly 1 billion light-years across and represents the largest structure ever found in space.
  • The BOSS Great Wall stands for the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and is a string of superclusters connected by gases lying roughly 4.5 to 6.5 billion light-years away from Earth.

Search for Life on Mars

  • Europe and Russia are set to launch an unmanned spacecraft to smell Mars\' atmosphere for gassy evidence that life once existed or may still exist on the Red Planetl.
  • ExoMars 2016, the first of a two-phase Mars exploration, will see an orbiter hoisted from Kazakhstan on a Russian Proton rocket.
  • With its suite of high-tech instruments, the Trace Gas Orbiter or TGO, should arrive at the Red Planet on October 19.
  • Its main mission is to photograph the Red Planet and analyse its air.

India Home to 21L HIV+

  • As per reports, India has 21.17 lakh people living with HIV, the third largest in the world after South Africa (68 lakh) and Nigeria (34 lakh).
  • To facilitate this, the government has decided to revamp its National AIDS Control Programme and extend free anti-retroviral therapy (ART) to those with a CD4 cell count of less than 500, earlier this was at 300.
  • At presen there are 524 ART centres and 1,094 link centres in the country providing free anti-retroviral therapy, treatment for opportunistic infections and counselling services to 9.25 lakh people living with HIV.
