Michael Bloomberg Not to Run for US Presidency

  • As per reports, Michael Bloomberg will not run for president as an independent, in a move that would have roiled this year\'s already extraordinarily unpredictable presidential campaign.
  • The former three-term mayor had set a mid- March deadline for his team of advisers to assess the feasibility of mounting a run, believing that waiting longer would imperil his ability to complete the petition process needed to get on the ballots in all 50 states.

Sixteen FDI Proposals Cleared

  • The Foreign Investment Promotion Board cleared 16 FDI proposals worth Rs. 14,000 crore.
  • The FIPB approved 16 foreign direct investment proposals, out of the 34 on agenda.

India Growth Forecast Lowered

  • Fitch Ratings has lowered India\'s economic growth forecast for next fiscal to 7.7 percent, but maintained the GDP projection for current fiscal at 7.5 percent.
  • According to its latest Global Economic Outlook, gradual recovery in 2016-17 and 2017-18 would be supported by higher real disposable income, assuming a normal monsoon after two years of below-average rainfall and a substantial wage increase for central government employees.
  • Growth is expected to gradually accelerate to 7.7 percent in FY\'17 and 7.9 percent in FY\'18. This implies minor downward revisions from the December GEO but leaves India at the top of the global growth ladder.

Dawn's One Year at Ceres

  • NASA’s Dawn spacecraft arrived at Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, in March 2015. Since then it has been mapping the dwarf planet in detail.
  • The spacecraft has revealed a mysterious mountain on the dwarf planet Ceres, which the Dawn team named as Ahuna Mons.
  • Ceres’ mysterious Ahuna Mons is about 3 miles high on its steepest side, and has an average overall height of 2.5 miles.
  • Dawn is the first spacecraft to visit a dwarf planet.

  • Lasith Malinga has stepped down as Sri Lanka\'s captain for the upcoming World Twenty20 in India.
