Former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who led the world body during one of its most difficult periods, died in Cairo.
The Egyptian diplomat became the first Secretary-General from Africa in 1992.
Boutros-Ghali oversaw the UN at a time when it dealt with several world crises, including the break-up of Yugoslavia and the Rwandan Genocide.
He was succeeded by Kofi Annan in 1997.
French Parliament Votes to Extend State of Emergency
The French Parliament voted to extend the country`s state of emergency, implemented after in November last year, till May 2016, under a vote by the National Assembly.
Deputies gave the green light, a day after the upper house, the Senate, approved the extension by overwhelming majority.

Ukraine`s embattled Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk survived a no confidence vote.
The motion to oust the pro-Western government leader collected only 194 of a required 226 votes in Ukraine`s 450-seat parliament.
President Petro Poroshenko had earlier asked Yatsenyuk to resign because he had lost the public`s trust in his ability to fight corruption and overcome Ukraine`s deep economic malaise.
HCL Technologies Acquired Volvo Group's External IT Business
Country\'s fourth-largest software services firm HCL Technologies has acquired Volvo group\'s external IT business and has signed a five-year outsourcing deal with the commercial vehicles maker.
The acquisition, will add 40 new customers in the Nordic and France regions and 2,500 highly skilled employees from 11 countries to HCL\'s portfolio.
The deal is one of the largest IT deals signed by any Indian IT company, and a first in the industry to use principles of Vested Sourcing as the basis of the relationship for an IT outsourcing engagement of this size and magnitude.
In a first-of-its kind medical device, a team of US nephrologists has developed an implantable artificial kidney using microchip filters and living kidney cells that will be powered by a patient\'s own heart to help patients.
Nephrologists are creating a bio-hybrid device that can mimic a kidney to remove enough waste products, salt and water to keep a patient off dialysis.
