According to European Commission Chief, EU member states have failed to deliver on efforts to resolve the migrant crisis, including on a deal to relocate thousands of asylum seekers from Italy and Greece.
As of date just 272 refugees have been moved to other countries out of the 160,000 that European Union nations agreed to relocate as the continent faced a wave of people fleeing the conflict in Syria and elsewhere.
As per the commission, it is not that the commission has not delivered, but a number of member states have failed to fully deliver on what we need to do and what needs to be done.
The government hiked excise duty on petrol by 75 paise per litre and on diesel by Rs. 2 a litre. This is the third increase in duties in less than four weeks.
Basic excise duty on unbranded or normal petrol has been increased from Rs. 7.73 per litre to Rs. 8.48 and the same on unbranded diesel from Rs. 7.83 to Rs. 9.83 per litre.
Earlier the government had hiked excise duty in November, December (2015) and first week of January (2016).
Cargo Traffic Handled by Major Ports Increases
Cargo traffic at India's twelve major ports witnessed an increase of 13.45 million tonnes during the period of April-December-2015 as compared to last year.
Cargo traffic at India's 12 major ports stood at 447.05 million tonnes during the period between April-December 2015 as compared with 433.5 million tonnes during April-December 2014. During the last three quarters of 2015-16, cargo traffic handled at India's major ports recorded growth of 4.3% in the first quarter (April-June), 3.8% in the second quarter (July-September) and 1.4% in the third quarter (October- December).
Three ports witnessed negative growth namely New Mangalore Port, Chennai Port and Visakhapatnam Port during the same period.
A team of astronomers has discovered the most luminous supernova ever observed. It is called ASAS-SN-15lh.
Supernovae are violent stellar explosions and some of the brightest objects in the universe.
The newly found super-luminous supernova was discovered by the All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae team. The only all-sky variability survey in existence, it is capable of finding normal supernovae out to about 350 million light years from earth.
NASA Awards Space Station Cargo Contracts
US space agency NASA has awarded the second round of commercial contracts to resupply the International Space Station to the following three private spaceflight companies Orbital ATK, Sierra Nevada and SpaceX.
Each of these companies will get at least six flights to deliver cargo to the space station, which will begin in late 2019 and extend through 2024.
Orbital ATK of Virginia and SpaceX of California, the winners of the first round of NASA's Commercial Resupply Services contracts, have already used their own space capsules to send supplies several times to the orbiting lab about 400 kilometers above Earth.
The only new face is Colorado-based Sierra Nevada.

Under the new Juvenile Justice Act, juveniles aged 16 to 18 years would now be tried as adults in cases of heinous crimes like rape and murder.
The Juvenile Justice Bill was passed by Rajya Sabha in the Winter Session and signed by the President into Act in the first week of January.
Under the Act, those aged between 16 and 18 years will cease to get protection under the juvenile law and will be tried as adults if they commit heinous crimes.
