EU Predicts 3 Million more Migrants by 2016 End

2000-year Old Greek Fort Unearthed

  • Israeli archaeologists have found the remains of the ancient Greek fort of Acra.
  • Archaeologists believe they have found the precise location of the Acra, a fortified Hellenistic citadel erected in the heart of Jerusalem by the Seleucid conquerors, after they first destroyed the city in 168 BC.

Earth Heading for Decade-long Mini Ice Age

  • Scientists have warned that the earth could head for a mini ice age as a result of decreased solar activity.
  • Researchers have created a new model that predicts the solar cycles more accurately than ever before.
  • Predictions from the new model suggest that solar activity will fall by 60 per cent between 2030 and 2040.
  • The prediction is based on what’s known as the sun’s 11-year cycle or 'heartbeat.

Tata Steel Q2 Net up

  • Tata Steel reported 22 per cent increase in the second-quarter consolidated net profit to Rs. 1,529 crore after a one-time gain from selling shares in group companies.
  • The net profit was reported despite an 18 per cent fall in revenue to Rs. 29,305 crore. The company has taken a non-cash impairment charge of Rs. 7,772 crore on account of some of its U.K. and European divisions.

Future Retail Q2 Net Profit at Rs. 14 crore

  • Future Retail reported a stand-alone net profit of Rs. 13.66 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2015.
  • The company had posted a net loss of Rs 8.04 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal.
  • Net sales during the period under review stood at Rs. 3,048.94 crore as against Rs. 2,484.85 crore in the year-ago period, up 22.7 per cent.

  • India's slide in the global football rankings continued as they dropped five places to be 172nd in the latest FIFA rankings.
  • Belgium created history by grabbing the top spot for the first time.
  • Last month India ranked 167th. The dip follows poor performances in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers where India lost all three group matches played so far.
  • India was at the bottom of Group D in the World Cup qualifiers and now have virtually no chance to even qualify for the Asian Cup by finishing third.
