2015, 2016 to Become Hottest on Record

  • Possible big changes in key global climate system suggest that global temperatures in 2015 and 2016 are set to reach record high levels, according to new research by the Met Office, Britain's official weather agency.
  • The latest research suggests the Earth's average surface temperature is running at or near record levels so far in 2015 and the trend is not slowing down. Last year's temperature has already broken the record for the hottest year, Xinhua news agency reported.

Astronomers peer into planet-hosting Star for the First Time

  • Astronomers have successfully peered through the “amniotic sac” of a star that is still forming to observe the innermost region of a burgeoning solar system for the first time.
  • No one so far has been able to probe this close to a star that is still forming and which also has at least one planet so close in.
  • To observe this distant star called “HD 100546”, the astronomers used the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) which is based in an observatory in Chile.

  • Renowned American playwright, screenwriter and film producer and director Frank D. Gilroy passed away in Monroe, New York. He was 89.

Assembly rejected proposal to declare Nepal as a Hindu State

  • The Constituent Assembly of Nepal has overwhelmingly rejected the proposal to declare Nepal a Hindu state and reaffirmed to remain secular.
  • The proposal to amend the constitution received the support of only 21 lawmakers of the Constituent Assembly in the total 601 member assembly. In order to pass this proposal, it was necessary to secure the required 10 percent of votes.
