India projected to save $24bn on longest oil glut since 1997

  • The longest global oil glut is expected to save India close to Rs 1.50 lakh crore in 2015-16.
  • To put that sum in perspective, it would be enough to cover the Centre's school education, health, women and child development budgets and pay for the rural jobs scheme.
  • The savings could swell further because even though fears over Greece and Iran continue to weigh on the oil market, there is no sign oil producers will pull back.

ISRO successfully launched PSLV-C28 carrying 5 UK satellites

  • ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C-28 has successfully put five satellites of United Kingdom into designated orbits.
  • With this, India has successfully launched 45 satellites of 18 different foreign countries successfully in space since 1999.

World's Most Powerful Computer Chip Created

  • IBM has built a working version of a new computer chip, and it says it’s the most powerful ever created.
  • At around four times more powerful than today's top-of-the-line technology, it should pave the way for a new generation of super-speedy computers and gadgets in the not-too-distant future.
  • All this power is made possible by transistors that are just 7 nanometres in size (7 billionths of a metre), created using a special silicon-germanium mixture instead of pure silicon.

Indigenously-built Aakash missile inducted in IAF

  • The indigenously-developed supersonic surface-to-air missile "Aakash" was formally inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF).
