All efforts were being made to help those hit by the tropical cyclone Marcia, which smashed through Queensland State leaving 1,500 homes damaged and thousands without electricity.
Marcia was one of two fierce cyclones which hit northern Australia within hours after the first, tropical cyclone Lam, hit remote communities in Northern territory near Elcho Island.
Marcia, a maximum category five storm, tore through the east of Queensland State and badly affected Yeppoon, 670 kilometres north of the capital Brisbane.
A first-ever environmental rating of coal-based power plants has found that India's thermal power generating units figure among the world's "most inefficient" in terms of compliance to pollution norms, use of resources and overall operation efficiency.
The study done by experts at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), also noted that Delhi is home to one of the most polluting power plants in the country- NTPC's Badarpur Thermal Power Plant- which has contributed in turning the capital into the most polluted city in the world.
The objective of the study is to give a clear picture of the environmental performance of the sector. In India the power is increasing, power plants are performing way below the global benchmarks.
Amid the government's efforts to ensure 'ease of doing business', the number of Japanese companies in India has increased by 137 in last one year, marking a 13 percent jump over the previous year.
According to reports, the total number of Japanese companies registered in India now is 1209 against 1072 as in October 2013.
To make it easier for Japanese companies to do business in India, the government has established a 'Japan-plus' unit in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) in the Ministry of Commerce.
World's First Hand-free Smartphone for the Disabled
An Israeli company has built the world's first completely hand-free smartphone for the disabled.
The smartphone, developed by start-up Sesame Enable, is designed for people with spinal cord injuries, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cerebral palsy or other disabilities that affects the use of hands and arms.
The Sesame is an Android smartphone that is equipped with proprietary head-tracking technology.
An advanced computer vision algorithm and the phone's front-facing camera track the user's head movements and allow them to control a cursor on screen.

Plans are afoot to set up ‘Science Cities’ in five to six zones across the country in a hub-and-spoke method as part of efforts to have science and technology footprint in every state.
As per reports, each ‘Science City’ would cater to scientific institutions/ labs located in different states in that particular zone. The ‘Science City’ would have the required infrastructure and other facilities, including a convention centre, high-end research laboratories and hotels.
