Spain Ruling Party Expels Ex-IMF Head

  • Spain`s ruling Popular Party expelled ex-IMF head Rodrigo Rato and all other party members under investigation for allegedly misusing credit cards for personal spending while working at a bailed-out finance group.
  • Rato and more than 80 others face possible charges of corporate crimes over allegations that they spent a total of 15 million euros ($19 million) on nightclubs, safaris and other luxuries using secret company credit cards when they worked at Caja Madrid and the Bankia group.
  • The scandal has fuelled indignation in Spain, where one in four workers is unemployed.
  • It has also embarrassed Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy`s Conservative Party ahead of a general election due in 2015 and sparked a string of high-profile resignations.

Tunisia Holds First Poll

  • Tunisians expressed tentative hope for the future as they lined up to choose their first five-year parliament since they overthrew their dictator in the 2011 revolution that kicked off the Arab Spring.
  • The past three and a half years have been marked by political turmoil, terrorist attacks and a faltering economy which has brought disillusionment to many over the democratic process, even though Tunisia is widely seen as the country that has the best chance for democracy in the Arab world.
  • Many polling stations reported high turnouts and long lines early in the day.

Can Humus in the Farm Make it Rain?

  • A farmer has been researching and scientists have been exploring the possibility of using humus to herald rains.
  • Glen Morris believes that what you do to the soil on your farm can affect the rain.
  • "The humus is the home for the biology, and recent scientific reports suggest that the biology actually increases up to 160 per cent in the first five minutes following rain.
  • "We're basically talking about biological cloud seeding."
  • Mr. Morris did his Masters thesis on the link between humus in the soil, the release of rain-forming plant pathogens and how both those things can help to rehydrate the landscape.

India's GDP Likely to Grow by 5.6% in FY15

  • According to a report by the World Bank, India's GDP is likely to expand by 5.6 per cent this fiscal as reforms gain momentum and the growth is expected to accelerate as proposed measures such as GST will give a boost to manufacturing sector.
  • In the following years, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is likely to rise further to 6.4 per cent and 7 per cent in FY16 and FY17 respectively.
  • With economic reforms gaining momentum, long-term prospects for growth remain bright for India. To realise its full potential, India needs to continue making progress on its domestic reforms agenda and encourage investments.
  • Growth has rebounded significantly due to a strong industrial recovery. Capital flows are back, signalling growing investor confidence as inflation has moderated from double digits, exchange rate has stabilised and financial sector stress has plateaued.

World’s First Windowless Plane

  • The world's first windowless plane is all set to take off.
  • Passengers would be able to switch the view on and off according to their preference, identify prominent sights by tapping the screen or just surf the internet.
  • Scientists and engineers at Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) called it "the windowless cabin with a view".
  • The days of glimpsing the world through a tiny plastic porthole when you fly are soon to be a thing of the past; future aircraft will offer a crystal-clear panoramic view without any windows at all.

Lenovo Introduces its First Wearable Device

  • Lenovo has silently introduced a new smartband - the Lenovo Smartband SW-B100. The new wearable device is "for young people who take care of their personal health and are interested in new tech trend products.
  • It allows users to track daily exercise, sleep and heart rate, customise notifications and automatically log in on a PC without entering a password.

Sarita Devi Apologises Again

  • Requesting the International Boxing Association to revoke the provisional suspension on L Sarita Devi, Boxing India President Sandeep Jajodia has said her unconditional apology and her impeccable past disciplinary record would form the crux of her defence in front of the world body.
  • It has been reported that Sarita Devi has written to the AIBA apoligising for refusing to wear her medal at the Incheon Games. In the letter she has accepted the incidents and said it will not happen again.
  • Along with Sarita, three ringside coaches, including national men's coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, were suspended by AIBA. They will also be filing their reply to AIBA's notice.

NDTV 24X7 Voted 'Best News Channel' in Asia

  • Reinforcing the trust and credibility of NDTV around the world, NDTV 24x7 was voted the "Asian News Channel of the Year" at the Asian Viewers' Television Awards (AVTA) in London. Honouring the best of Asian Television, the Awards recognized the excellence within the Asian television community in nine award categories nominated completely by the viewers.
  • NDTV won both the awards in the News categories at this year's AVTA, with NDTV 24x7 being judged as the Asian News Channel of the year, beating the likes of Aaj Tak, ABP News, ARY News, TV 18 and others.
  • NDTV 24x7 is an English-language news and current affairs television channel based in New Delhi, India. The channel was launched in 2003, after the contract between STAR Network and the New Delhi Television expired.

Schedule for J&K, Jharkhand Assembly Polls 2014

  • The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the dates for the elections of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
  • The 5-phased assembly election in both the poll bound states will take place on the following dates:

Phase-I on November 25
Phase-II on December 2
Phase-III on December 9
Phase-IV on December 14
Phase-V on December 20

  • The counting in both poll bound states is scheduled for December 23.
