JEE (Main) - 2013 Pattern & Syllabus

JEE (Main) Examination 2013 (Paper I of earlier AIEEE) for admissions to B.E./B.Tech courses at NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be scheduled in April 2013.


Type of Examination: JEE (Main) – 2013 shall have two papers i.e.
  • Paper-1 and
  • Paper-2.
(*) Candidates may take Paper-1, or Paper-2, or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to.

Mode of Examination: The Paper-1 of JEE (Main) will be conducted in two separate modes, i.e.
  • Offline Mode (Pen and Paper Based Examination)
  • Online Mode (Computer Based Examination)
(*) A candidate will opt for either Pen or Paper Based or Computer Based examination mode for Paper – 1 only.(II)  The Paper-2 of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Pen and Paper Based Examination Mode.Requirement of papers for different courses:

Pattern of Examination: Subject combination for each paper, type of questions in each paper and mode of examination available is given in the table below.

Syllabus for Mathematics: Sets, Relations And Functions, Complex Numbers And Quadratic Equations, Matrices And Determinants, Permutations And Combinations, Mathematical Induction, Binomial Theorem And Its Simple Applications, Sequences And Series, Limit, Continuity And Differentiability, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Co-Ordinate Geometry, Three Dimensional Geometry, Vector Algebra, Statistics And Probability, Trigonometry, Mathematical Reasoning.

Syllabus for Physics: Physics And Measurement, Kinematics, Laws Of Motion, Work, Energy And Power, Rotational Motion, Gravitation, Properties Of Solids And Liquids, Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory Of Gases, Oscillations And Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects Of Current And Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction And Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature Of Matter And Radiation, Atoms And Nuclei, Electronic Devices, Communication Systems, Experimental Skills.

Syllabus for Chemistry: Some Basic Concepts In Chemistry, States Of Matter, Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding And Molecular Structure, Chemical Thermodynamics, Solutions, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions And Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, Classification Of Elements And Periodicity In Properties, General Principles And Processes Of Isolation Of Metals, Hydrogen, Block Elements, Co-Ordination Compounds, Environmental Chemistry, Purification And Characterization Of Organic Compounds, Some Basic Principles Of Organic Chemistry, Hydrocarbons, Organic Compounds Containing Halogens, Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen, Nitrogen, Polymers, Biomolecules, Chemistry In Everyday Life, Principles Related To Practical Chemistry.
