Rock and roll music was considered to be and still is a major

genre amongst the youth especially, the American youth. It is

believed to have played a major role in civil rights movement

as it was liked alike by both the African-Americans and white

American teens. Thus, it greatlly helped reduce the racial

tension in the United States.

Not only this, it was one of the first music types which gave

them a sense of belonging. This was because it dealt with

issues like cars, clothes, schools, dating and so on, describing

issues and conflicts which were more identifiable amongst the

teens. Also it was could be easily heard on radio broadcasts,

jukeboxes and various American shows, giving the teenagers a

good way of spending their leisure time. It broke boundaries

by including topics like *** in the lyrics which though felt by

everyone, weren't approved much by the society.

This lead to a problem as the ****** Americans and people

belonging to a higher age group didn't find it all good.

According to them it was breaking barriers based on colour

and spoiling the teens, making them rebellious. It provoked

strong reactions amongst them and to decline its popularity

some adults took steps like writing out "Cosmic Book" which

in order to convince teenagers to stop following rock culture

and follow the older, more sophisticated culture.

However, there were still others who thought it was a good

way of encouraging racial cooperation and even helped it

grow. For example, rock singers like Elvis Presley, sang songs

which were greatly followed by both young and old alike. And

that is how inspite of all the hardships, rock music is still quite

popular.
