The passage and the lecture discusses about the origin of Thanksgiving and how gradually it got famous among the people of The America. The passage claims that the roots of this event goes back to the 16th century when the settlers at Plymouth held a feast for the pilgrims because of insufficient supplies from England. The settlers of Plymouth also taught the pilgrims to catch ell and grow corns. As a result, the pilgrims celebrated their first harvest thereafter for three days to thank the settlers of Plymouth which is now known as Thanksgiving day.
On the other hand the lecture discusses about the origin of thanksgiving holiday and contradicts the passage by stating that the event was religious. The lecture claims this by stating that the celebration was to thank the Gods for a successful harvest. The passage further states that Abraham Lincoln proclaims a holiday for thanks giving and thereafter in 1789, George Washington declared it as a federal and public holiday rather than a religious one. The lecture further says that Thanksgiving is also celebrated to cherish the victory of American soldiers during that period.
Both the lecture and the passage have different opinion on whether Thanksgiving is a religious event or not. Therefore due to insufficient information it is difficult to reach on a conclusion and the topic is open to debate.

Not a bad attempt for the first time as you are using incorrect terms. For example, the settlers you mention in the first paragraph are actually the native Americans who were present when the pilgrims arrived. The pilgrims themselves were settlers. Your final paragraph is a conclusion and is not needed nor wanted as you need to stay strictly to the material given to you.
