The lecture and the passage gave the idea of rock and roll music. It was and continues to be influential. The historians claim it as first generous music. According to the lecture, it is a sense of belonging for teenagers. The reading supports the lecture by stating that both African – American and white American teens enjoyed the music. Also, many early songs dealt with issues that were common and identifiable among teens.

Rock and roll music has influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes and even language. The lecture states that this music was shared by both blacks and whites. The passage agrees with the lecture by giving the point that rock and roll music served to bring both white and black youths together as audience, as the black performers reached out to a white audience and white performers made use of African American music.

The lyrics from the songs described events and conflicts most listeners could relate to. The lecture gave the example of blue suit song, where they talked about romance. In that song, a girl was dating a boy but eventually left him because he liked traditional adult music. The reading also gave the instance that the topic of *** began appearing in lyrics. The new music itself tried to break the boundaries and express many of the emotions that people are feeling, but had not talked about.
