A radiator holds 16 litres of an antifreeze-water mixture that is 30% antifreeze. Your job is to drain just the right amount of fluid from the radiator so that when the radiator is refilled with pure antifreeze, the mixture becomes 50% antifreeze. How many litres do you need to drain?

16 L antifreeze 30% = 4.8;water = 11.2 (ratio = 3/7) After taking out soln and mixing antifree; we want Antifreeze = 50% ; means water = 8L:,Antifreeze = 8L; Hence we need to reduce water to 8L, hence required quantity of water to be drained out = 3.2; propotional antifreeze come out = (x/3.2) = 3/7 ; x = 9.6/7, total solution need to drain = 3.2 9.6/7 = 32/7
