In a big relief for Indian students and professionals living in the United States on visas and awaiting green cards, a federal judge in Seattle has indefinitely blocked President Donald Trump's executive order that seeks to end birthright citizenship. Slamming the order, the court reportedly said that Trump is trying to skirt the rule of law to play policy games with the Constitution.
Zomato Changes Brand Name as 'Eternal', Unveils New Logo
Food-tech giant Zomato announced that it officially changed its name to 'Eternal,' a move that came more than two years after the company started using the new name internally.
'Eternal' comprises four key business segments: Zomato's food delivery service, Blinkit's quick-commerce unit, District's live events business, and Hyperpure's kitchen supplies unit.
The CEO said that the name change applies solely to the company, not its brand or app. The stock ticker will switch from Zomato to Eternal, and the corporate website will change from zomato.com to eternal.com.
RBI Launches Exclusive 'Bank.in' Domain to Tackle Financial Frauds, Enhances Digital Security Measures
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra introduced an exclusive 'bank.in' internet domain for Indian banks to combat financial fraud, along with stricter authentication protocols for digital transactions, while unveiling the Monetary Policy.
Malhotra emphasised that this initiative will ensure customers can distinguish legitimate banking websites from fraudulent ones. Following this, a 'fin.in' domain will be introduced for the broader financial sector.
Para Sport, Swimming and Track Cycling to Offer Highest Medals in Commonwealth Games 2026
More than 200 gold medals will be up for grabs across 10 days in Glasgow, Scotland for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the 23rd edition of the event, with para sport, track cycling and swimming boasting highest medals.
The competition will be held from July 23 to August 2, 2026 and will feature a 10-sport programme concentrated across four venues within an eight-mile corridor of the city.
While mixed 4x400m relay has been added to the schedule, Commonwealth Mile will make a comeback for the first time since 1966.
Marcus Stoinis Announces Shock Retirement from ODIs
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who was named in the country's Champions Trophy squad, announced a shock retirement from ODIs to "fully focus on the next chapter" of his career, creating a fresh selection headache for the side that is already dealing with injuries to key players.
Stoinis will, however, continue to be available for selection in T20 Internationals.
Ministry of Ayush Launches Shatavari for Wellness: Nationwide Campaign
The Ministry of Ayush launched a species-specific campaign, "Shatavari – For Better Health," aimed at raising awareness about the medicinal benefits of Shatavari. The initiative was inaugurated by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, in the presence of key officials, including Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO, National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB). This campaign follows the success of previous initiatives promoting medicinal plants like Amla, Moringa, Giloe, and Ashwagandha. The campaign aligns with the Panch Pran Goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India's holistic development by 2047, with a special focus on women's health.
Defence Ministry Signs over Rs. 10,000-crore Contract for Pinaka Rocket System
The government inked contracts worth more than Rs. 10,000 crore with defence entities for procurement of Area Denial Munition Type-1 and high-explosive rockets with enhanced range for Pinaka multiple launch rocket system, seeking to enhance Indian Army's firepower capabilities. The defence ministry in a statement also said that a contract for upgrade in Shakti software was also signed with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
The ministry inked contracts with Economic Explosive Limited (EEL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL) for "procurement of Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 (DPICM) and High Explosive Pre Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets respectively for Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) at a total cost of Rs. 10,147 crore.
US President Trump Recognises February 9 as 'Gulf of America Day'
US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation recognising February 9 as "the first-ever Gulf of America Day" after an executive order by him to rename the Gulf of Mexico.
Just after Trump signed the executive order, the US Coast Guard started using the term Gulf of America, marking the US government's first official use of the term.
In a step towards decolonisation, the Indian Army renamed Kolkata's Fort William, the headquarters of its Eastern Command, as 'Vijay Durg'. The decision reflects India's commitment to honouring its indigenous military history over colonial relics. Inspired by the historic Vijaydurg Fort in Maharashtra, which served as a naval stronghold under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, this renaming aligns with the government's broader push to erase colonial imprints from institutions and landmarks.
It was Built in 1781 by the British and named after King William III of England.
